Well,I'm planning to get a new YZ 250 two stroke for next year...it will come with the GYTR pipe and muffler ( or could even be HGS ,or so I heard from a dealer ) in the race package deal that they do...
Will put on a V force reed block too.
Thought I would send the cylinder and head to pro circuit for the full job...and they always say to run on VP C12 after they do the head mods.
I did this with a KX 125 years ago and it flew! Back then you could still buy Shell RF 100 just about anywhere ,so I used that and it ran great...real holshot weapon.
Since the Nanny state banned the sale of leaded fuels to the public..or so I believed, it was a surprise to see C12 was available here ...beauty!
Rang up the importer after looking at the web site..they have a dealer near where I love so no hassle picking up the gas...

Asked about price per 20 litre drum, thinking it would be pricey ,but what the hell you know?
Ol mate looked up the price annnnnnnnd......wait for it........

$200 Australian for a 20 litre drum ,plus freight o their dealer....

As they say.....bang goes that idea!

Just to translate for my fellow Americans, that's about $150 for a 5 gal drum.

Yeah, I would say that's pricey.

I want to say 5 gallons of c12 here in the states to be specific virginia . it was 68 bucks for 5 gallons . which is still pricey to me ! but jesus christ 150 bucks ...

I would start looking for other brands... call speed shops , call drag strips ... they will know where the good priced fuel is!

I've been mixing Sunoco Supreme 50/50 with 93 pump gas in my Husky 125. Bike seems to really like it and its cheaper than VP.

I would give Sunoco a hard look, if it is available down there.

I have been running the GTX280 98 Octane unleaded in my 450 and I will try their 112 octane in my 250 as soon as I burn through my last pale of C12... the spec sheet is really close! I have a fully modified cylinder and head from Tom Morgan so I am hoping to have good results!

C12 here in Vegas is 98 dollars for 5 gallons and the Sunoco will work out to be about half of that!!!

I can get the VP 110 octane out here for $77 for 5 gallons.
That's about how much it costs here. Im lucky to have one of my best friends as a VP dealer , and made the switch over to using VP just a couple months ago. Helps out a lot on the price.

$150.00 USD for C12?.....good gawd I wouldn't buy it either.

I got some about 3 weeks ago. I always keep an extra pail or two in the garage. I can get it for $80 from a local performance shop

its about the same price here, i have been looking for a while and no other companies seem to import good race gas,

the Elf oils distributor used to bring in some good race fuel in, but stopped about 5 years ago

we can still get Av Gas here pretty easy, but you dont get much gains in four strokes with it,

How good is a jet kit if you get a crappy batch of fuel at a pump?

Exactly. What the heck does jetting your bike correctly , have anything to do with burning good or crappy fuel?

Jetting correct + good fuel = win / win....right? At least that's been my experience.

Keep in mind with 100ll av is that it must be tested daily by the airport for octane levels. Thats what my local airport worker told me. I guess it must be a liability thing. I always used it in my 2 stroke. 4.20 a gallon. Cant beat it

To the guys running av gas .. what jetting changes do u make if any?? Think av got standard jetting in my 93 cr 250.. think it's 55 and 175.. what changes would u suggest?.. just got 20 litres of it and not used the bike this year. Cheers

I was buying C12 from Carter (in Las Vegas) for about $89.99 (5 gallons).

It's all about throttle response and how crisp the bike runs, even if the jetting is spot on. If you can afford the race gas it sure is worth it. I ran 50/50 in my 06 CR250R and it ran great.

If they made VP in Australia the price would be lower. You're paying for a long trip and a lot of fees and taxes along the way. Is there no domestic race fuel manufacturer over yonder?

Isn't the pay over there higher so it's basically a wash compared to US prices?

Not that I know of...was surprised to see that people in the USA are paying $90 for a 5 gallon drum, so it's not surprising that it's $200 here. Can't imagine they sell much of it

Well the minimum wage here is about $17 per hour for a full time employee , so after tax you'd probably have to work 13 to 14 hours to buy a drum of C12, provided you didn't need to spend any of that money on food or rent or anything ..
How's that compare to the USA..?
Seriously though, I think the average Aussie is paid more than folks in the USA.
From what I read, things are pretty crook over there..

Why not just set the clickers and sag and let the stock YZ250 rip?

Yep , me too Mike. I've run strait 110 and didn't really notice much difference. I have also ran just strait non-ethynol with no race gas....and that...I could tell a difference. I've played around a bit with it and it seems to me , running 3 gallons of 110 mixed with 2 gallons of clean fuel , seems to be the sweet spot.

I'm riding an 06' RM 250 which " was " stock , but becoming slightly modified as I type this. And a 17' Husky 125. Which is pretty much stock...for now.

Minimum wage is like 8 dollars in the US .... and minimum wage jobs make up 33.78 percent of the jobs in america.... Yeah id say i wouldent complain about paying 200 bucks for a 5 gallong drum if minimum wage is 17 bucks ... a very modest wage here would be 28-33 dollars per hour .... some make more ... alot of people on this forum are rich though....
