A must read. I’ve been a big fan of Brett’s work since he started We Went Fast. Incredible journalism and some of the best moto stories I’ve ever read.

Wow! Great read and now I am more of a fan knowing that incredible back story. I can really relate as well. My wife had a tubal miscarry and lost the tube. We still ended up getting a son though just a little later

That's a cool story. We used to see his Dad and I believe brother race t Challenge Trax in Kingsville, MO. My best friend bought a RM 125 from Mike back in the day too.

That is a fantastic story. Whoever the writer is, he/she really paints a picture of what Austin's mom goes through on race day.

Always manages to put stuff into words to make it very readable, great work.

Yeah that was a great read. I never understood why my own mom refused to come to even practice days. After reading that I can only imagine being on the parent side of things.

Absolutely fantastic. I was a fan of his already (basically if you ride for Kawi I'm gonna cheer for you), but this reading this story just made it more of a personal thing. His mom is one tough lady, and as a mama's boy myself, I can sympathize with calling my mom when im sick or ailing from something, even at 32 years old. Thank you for posting this!

Great story, ,my one and only (MX riding) daughter came after 2 that didn't work out and being told we had little chance.

Now we are expecting our first grand child.

Wow, that was really good! I kind of wish that they had added some story about him winning at the monster cup as an amatuer. He smoked EVERYONE EVERY race!

Mm yeah, think there could have been more to the story but we don’t know how long interviewer had been following them (did mention standing next to mom at races).

If only more of today’s racers had stories like this and not just going after the dream

Wow. Thank you, Premix for shining light on the project. I really appreciate this. And thank you everyone for taking the time to read the article. Every story I write comes to me in a different way.

The angle of this one was completely unexpected. I got introduced to the Forkner Family through a friend and the story developed through hours of loitering at the PC truck (thanks, Bones!) and many interviews over several months.

[shameless plug warning] I do these projects in my spare time and without advertising. I want to do more so if you can spare a buck a month (which, yearly, would average the cost of a magazine subscription), join me at Patreon.com/wewentfast

Oh, and pass the articles to a friend. That's the best marketing.

Thanks all!

Brett

Thanks, Bob and shuggs. The details of individual races such as the Monster Energy Cup got left on the edit room floor. It's easy to go into the weeds of talking about this race and then that race, etc. etc.

When writing, finding that balance between not enough, too much and just right is so tough. Maybe this is why the Goldilocks and the 3 Bears tale has endured so long, ha ha.
