To be fair to Astars I believe that is the first time any of their riders have raced in their new gear. I think Anderson even switched backed to their "older" stuff for the second moto. Although like you said they did have issues at A1 but I believe that was caused by the wheel hitting the pants and breaking them loose.

On the youth gear it is a simple button on the waist of the pants, where as most other pants have the plastic ratchet strap.
Assuming their adult gear has the button also...

All of the 2018 models have the generic plastic strap.

Well that rules out my theory. If it was the 2017 pants he went back to after it happening to his 18 pants, as someone mentioned.

I have a set of the older gear and it has 2 buttons and valcro along with 2 adjustable straps on both hips. The closure system is amazing and I love it.

It's a shame they've gone to the ol plastic strap thing. I hate that.
