What is your bike number and why did you choose that # ?

Edited Date/Time 10/5/2020 7:15am
My 1st Mx bike, I bought on 11-18-89, it had 18 on it. At the time I just wanted to ride it. I just figured the bike has numbers on it, one less thing to buy. Then riders talk a 3 digit #, means your a pro am rider. So the number changed to 118. Then I changed it to 531, I was born 11-18 at 531 pm, so I figured it was good luck. In cycle news I saw a cr85 rider from Cali with 232, thought that #, looked cool. I changed my # to 532, I think the #,s flow well together. And the numbers individually, are represented by past 80,s and 90,s riders.

I run #625 because I was born on June 25. At Amateur nationals my backup number was 688 because I was born in 1988.

9 to 5, yeah the Dolly Parton song. Always liked it as a kid. Dad worked 9 to 5 just to come home to work on our bikes. What a way to make a living.

Used to run #111. GL’s number when I first started. Also was born in November so I have always used 11 or a combo of 1’s for all sports.

When you sign up for a district card here in Wisconsin, you get three choices and write them down on the D16 card application. My first choice was 123, second was 456, and last was 789. Looking back, I’m glad it went down like that. I feel it’s a good looking number on a bike.

711 since the early 80's, didn't have numbers on my bike, went to a race and had to borrow numbers, I got two ones and a seven from my friends so that's how I got the 711. Ran it ever since.

My boys #’s are 802 and 898 because their bdays are August of 1998 and 2002. I got my first race bike used (1989 RM80 in 1991) and already had #8 so I ran it for a while then I spent the next few years playing with different numbers for a various of reasons (usually motivated by superstition). I ran 11, 125, 161 and maybe more. I just started riding again last year after a 20+ year void and I plan to run 475 for my bday April 1975.

679 was my old mans number before he passed away.... He is/was the reason my brother and i ride dirtbikes so I decided to take them over as a "tribute" and it reminds me he is riding with me even after being gone.

My number is 679

I was racing Hangtown in 95 and my number was 112. There were two 112's in my class so the Dirtdiggers told me I could run 1 or 12. I of course picked 12 and have run that ever since.

In 1983 when I first started racing, CMC at Ascot park in Gardena, they assigned me 67e. It's just always been my number. Now it has even more meaning since my Dad passed away at 67 years old and my favorite sports team is the LA Kings and they came into the NHL in 1967. I've used it when I play hockey as well.

Mine is 249 and has been since 1983. I was engaged at the time and we set the date for the 24th of September, or 249.
Got married that year and still going strong!
37 years later still run the number.
And today is our anniversary!

401, randy moody ran 401 after Donny Schmidt passed, my dad helped wrench on his bikes and would ride his practice bikes, somewhere along the way my dad adopted the number, then it ended up on my bike, I clown on my dad saying it means April fools

41 has been my # since I was a teen. Growing up in Dallas, the Cowboys were the focus of most of us kids. My family found a dog barely alive in the ice and rescued it. Turns out it was Lance Alworth’s dog. He and his wife came over to pick up the dog and spent time with us 6 kids and 41 stuck with me from there. (Pic of LA41, wife and dog).

#43. I was #438 when I first got on the big bikes back in the day (1981), so I got something similar.. #43, when I raced cars in 2012.. Dropped the 8 and got #43 when I came back to race bikes a few years ago.

773 it was my number I was given at Ponca second year I went liked how it looked so stayed with it. Before that ran 6 for Landon and 67 for my 67 Nova. Have been 773 for 20+ years. My son runs 222 because I told him you have to run 3 digit so he went 222 for triple Villopoto and because he found a picture of Cairoli on a KTM with Axo gear like he wore.

#627 - Daughters birthday and i just like the way it looks on the bike. Plus, with a higher 3 digit # - there are no false expectations that i am fast.... Cool

I became a Mike Healey fan in 1983, when I was riding an RM80. When it was time to race, I ran his #99.
I later earned 47 and 26 in my local series races, so I ran those numbers. When I returned to racing after college, I started back up with #99 and then earned 10, 5, 4 and #1 in consecutive seasons. I didn't feel much like running #1 except at that local track, so I decided to get a good, 3-digit amateur number. I almost went with 199, but I wondered about that fast kid on the RM85 at Loretta's; Pastrami or something I think his name was. I didn't want to have the same number. Anyway, I reversed it, and I've been 991 ever since.

I'll have to repost my whole, long diatribe about fast numbers for you guys. Some of you might not have seen it.

So I ran 433 on my first bike
511 came on my second bike from the previous owner
314 (Grant Baylor) was on my CR500
currently, no numbers on the FC350

When you see someone show up with #69 first thought is always "oh god this guy".

It reminds me of seeing the old local pros on a clapped up 2000's 250 with beat up gear, he is just on rails and its a thing beauty.

When I first starting racing I used 617 because my birthday was June 17. After that I raced CRC and AME races and ran whatever number I earned the previous year.

I ran 666 when I was a young punk. Stopped riding for 15 years are so, turned 40 and ran that number till I stopped riding again. Just started working on my 2002 yz 250, getting bike ready for when I turn 60. Probably will run the #60.

Motocross came to to America in the 1960s. Southern California was the center of motocross. The CMC became the big organization for racing. They issued you a number. They had so many people signing up they had to start adding letters to the end of the numbers. You could have 28a. 28b, 28c etc. on the starting line at the same time. My first CMC number was 30V. At that time Marty Tripes' dad George had a motorcycle shop in Santee which is part of San Diego. In 1969 I bought a Puch 125MX from George. Marty was a big deal at the time so George went to Stuart Peter's that owned the CMC and got the "T" series of numbers. Marty was 1T, Wayne Boyer was 2T, I think Marty's little brother Mike was 3T and I was 6T. I can't remember the rest of the names. Eventually I earned 117 in the CMC. I raced in some other clubs AMA, CRC and AME with 117 as well. At some point later I thought about lucky number 7 then decided 77 would be twice as lucky. I was at a race somewhere and there were 3 of us with 77 on our bikes. So they had us each take electrical tape and add a digit X,Y or Z. I was first in line so they gave me the X. I thought it looked cool so I've been running 77X for 25 years. In 2002 I bought a KTM 380SX and ran 380 until I sold the p.o.s and went back to 77X. I thought about running 6T when I turned 60 four years ago but stayed with 77X.

A lot of great stories about bike #,s. Thinking back I didn,t get my district stuff out in time. And lost 531, freaked out for a second. Then chose 532, the 1st minute of my Life. Dob my Mom was in labor, then not. My young parents, said let’s get out of here and go for a ride. They watched a ship called Danial J Morrell come into port. Thought it was neat, went back to hospital and had me 3 weeks over due. The ship sank on 11-29-1966 on it,s next load of cargo. 28 crew members died and one survived Dennis Hale. Craziest survival story I ever heard, 38-40 hrs later he was rescued. I met him 6 yrs ago and bought his book. I thought it was weird my Mother thought that ship was so cool. She is from Holland and came to America on a ship after the war. She was only 5 tho, with 2 brothers, that,s 3 kids and Grand patents 2= 532. Divide 532 by 2, 3 times and it,s 66.5 My birth year. Funny

My district number is 124 and they gave it to me when my bikes were already running that number due to all the graphics I had were from Jiri Dostal's bike the previous year.

Technically, I think my number is 124 M...

My current bike has 19 on it as a shot at some "Good MoJo" for Justin after he got hurt at Glendale.
