I currently have a 98 YZ250 I’m rebuilding and eventually I’m going to have to make a choice between these two looks. One day I want to keep it more stock looking the next day I want to have it look more “trick”

I swiped these pics from vital/online

Closer to stock:

Or a little more dolled up:

I like a stock look with subtle yet expensive looking trick bits that only people who know what to look for will notice.

It really depends on the bike I guess. Stock always seems to look cleaner...BUT , if a graphics + bolt on's are done right , they can look pretty damn good too. Most importantly.......it's all in the eye of the beholder ( owner ) and what makes you happy. Tell everyone else to piss off if they don't like it.

I like it when the older bikes are made to look like newer versions. I like the blue rims they have now.

More "trick" cause it's mine. Tongue

Honestly I like that stock look of those year YZ's. A 98 would be a great candidate for something with a clean factory look.

If you're not into that or have too much trouble tracking down era specific graphics or whatever, make it your own! But I'm weird and miss silver rims!

Stock look with a kit and wheels. Not big on anodized oil caps or things like that. Ti looks sharp too. And those washers with holes to give the factory look

I would update the subframe(subframe is 10 or 11mm shorter), rear plastic/airbox(not the 15+) and front fender/numberplate. Ever want to go back, just swap back out. No brackets needed for the updated gas tank and radiators etc. I have a 97. It isn't worth it to make it really "trick" unless you absolutely love the thing. For that year anyways. It received the newer engine in 99 I believe.

For me, that bike looks best in it's factory form.

Trick parts but stock-ish looking plastic. Never was a big fan of the plastic with too much going on graphics-wise; a list of sponsors on the rear fender, 4-5 different colors all over the bike, etc. I say deck the bike out with trick hardware but have a bold color scheme for the graphics/plastic, like how the stock YZ pictured is blue up front and white in the rear.

prefer the clean look of the top, also notice it is more "trick" than the bottom one with updated front end
Or you could just skip the graphics they just wear off anyways.

A beat bike with silver rims looks better than a new one with black rims.

Out of those two options I like the stock way more. But there are other trick YZs that I would prefer over both of those.

I did a lot to mine. Kinda my idea of “if there was a factory two stroke race bike” this is my version of how it would look. Clean but some “trick” stuff added. I need some updated pictures with my blue seat cover

Sometimes I open a thread on here and think I have found a lost script for "queer eye for the moto guy"

Either or. I like a clean look regardless. I also like tasteful mods. Id rather see arc levers than anodized ebay ones. Id rather see built wheels than spoke sleeves. My fav mod on any of my bikes is the R&D float bowl on the carb. So subtle yet does so much for the bike.

I prefer a unique look as opposed to stock. With that said I think 99% of graphics on motocross bikes are hideous.

This is the only PROPER color for a Yamaha. End of discussion.

I like the looks of the factory bikes in the 80's. Basically they were stock (or even less than stock) graphics with trick parts that did the talking. The 85-91 Factory Hondas were perfect. The 1990 factory Suzuki was perfect. Jeff Wards 1985 factory Kawi was perfect.

very nice! These bikes are super easy to trick out. A little here and a little there....next thing you know the bikes look completely different

I always prefer the more "trick" look... But with that YZ, I think it looks way nicer stock. It looks so clean.
