Bob Hannah is my favorite rider. Here is a story; 1980ish Anaheim stadium, just finished the main event which Bob of course won and they are going to do an after main event race with the top 4 guys. Race starts, Hannah gets way out front, stops on top of the largest jump and waves the guys behind to catch up! They catch up and Bob is off.........gets way out front and stops again! The crowd went totally insane. It was the coolest thing ever saw.

I think you're fishing but I'll bite anyway. People who have been in the sport the longest think he matters, and yes, we care.

"they called me wide open and out of control because my feet came off the pegs, but as long as I had my hands on the bars I was actually in control"

But you are right......history books care and today's fan's.....not so much.

Hands on the bars, feet in the air, rear tire swapping, but front going where he wanted. Always gave it his all, and always there for the fans. A privilege to see him ride Unadilla and Fla Winter AMA.

To me, even more than his Championships, I admire his Honesty and Frankness. Could you see Bob on the podium reading his sponsors names on a pit board held by his mechanic giving politically correct comments while sipping on some 5 wt. sugar water...
His straightforwardness will scare you.

In 1980, Chuck Norris wanted to race motocross. But he was scared when he found out he'd have to be on the track with Bob Hannah.

IMO the sport was actually more mainstream then than it is now. More people knew Bob Hannah, than they know the current stars now.

First thing I thought of. Bevo had it going on. Wonder how many twenty year olds know what he's holding there???

Maybe I'll post up the podium shot.

Ratio Rite. Not all of us only care about four strokes and skulls. I still use one to fill the trans. Wink

Bob Hannah was my first, you never forget your first.
I think I know what your saying though, not just Hannah but Emig,Langston,Rick Johnson a ton of huge talent that doesn't he the recognition they deserve. Somewhere along th line the powers that be decided RC is the face of the sport.

I'd like to have a photo of Hannah riding out into the woods after that lap where he let Broc by.
