I normally trail ride and ride back yard mx tracks with hardly any decent jumps but am getting into mx next year and riding MX this weekend. I'm a uni student so things are tight, how ever, through the shop I work at, I can get a set of POD K8's for $400 aud. There is no real urgency to getting them but I would hate to snap a knee on Sunday and as a result lose my job, pay for surgery etc.
I mostly ride sand. I dunno if that helps or not.

If you use them, tell me. If you don't, tell me. I wanna know what you reckon before I spend valuable money on them.

Well worth the money. If you can afford them look at custom braces. They will fit better and give you better support. Custom CTi are the choice for moto.

Awesome guys. I just watched a full video low down on them. If they're anything like my leatt neck brace, I know I will have them for a long time. Plastic protection normally lasts a life time if you look after it.

I think a large part of it isn't even money. I would hate to snap a knee at 18 and never be able to run properly again

I don't use them.
I've seen more femur breaks with them than knee breaks without them

How do you guys with CTi go about getting them covered via insurance?

As far a I know, bone will always heal fully but knee breakages rarely heal properly. Have heard the same about leatt on chest cavity.

I got mine through insurance after I tore my mcl riding, got them for both knees as a preventative item and my insurance picked up 80% of the bill

After I tore my acl I bought a pair of asterisks and absolutely hated them! The we're so bulky and uncomfortable so I sold them and had a custom one made. The custom one is a lot slimmer and more comfortable but I still don't wear it either. It just feels awkward riding with it on.

They are bulky and take time to get used to riding with, but after a while you stop noticing them. My Asterisk Cells are beat to shit, but I won't ride without them.

I rather break a bone 10 times outta 10 than blow out an ACL.

I wear Mobius X8's

I started using Knee braces back in 1991 after tearing my ACL. I got custom CTI braces that my insurance paid for. I doubt that would happen today. I have had those two units rebuilt three times. I also used the off the shelf Asterisks both the standard, which were good and the ones with the BOA system which I hated as being too large. I bought a set of low end PODS last year and I seem to like them as they feel slim and do not migrate. Migration has been the bane of my knee brace usage. The PODS seem to stay in place best.

I cannot ride without knee braces. It is like riding without a helmet.

I am 58 and in a few months, after a life time of skiing, Jet Skiing, Running, MX and off Road riding, road biking ands mountain biking am scheduled for two new knees. I wish I had used braces much earlier in life to help these puppies cope with the abuse I threw at them. Would it have helped??? I have no idea or proof that it would, but I would have felt that I did my best to protect my knees.

What kind of knee pad/protection is that?

i run Asterisk braces and swear by them.

during snowmobile season, i wear Acerbis X-Strong Knee Guards. i absolutely love them. if i didn't already wear my Asterisk for moto, i would definitely wear these knee guards and feel great about the switch. highly recommended.

I always used them because I broke a brace accross the rigid frame area around the right femur. I had a crash in 04 that at hangtown that sent me hospital bound and on the couch for 3 months and my first ride back I tried to put my knee brace on and one felt weird. It had been broken accross the top. I was out cold so I don't remember even seeing them or taking either of them off, but needless to say I was glad the brace broke from the stress of the crash and not my leg. I wore them until the day I stopped riding four years ago (fixed of course).

Snapped my femur without them. I wear them now and my knee with the screws in it doesn't hurt as bad riding as it does without them

I use CTi2. Won't ride without them. Unbelievable support and the professional fit (a certified location should cast your legs and send Ossur the molds) My ortho or in my case, my flight surgeon, writes me a prescription, I get a call from authorized fitter, get casts done, and about 3-4 weeks later they arrive at the office that ordered them. Mske sure to order the "MX Kit" so you get the knee cups. Easy and super comforting when riding, but may take some getting used to. People that say they "see" more femur breaks with them than knee injuries without them either a). Have never had either injury, nor worn braces. b). They are just running their mouth with no basis in reality. Knees and ligaments heal much less reliably than bones, for the most part.

Who doesn't wear knee braces? I started wearing CTi's in 1984 and have been wearing knee braces since. Now I just opt for the over-the-counter Asterisks. One time a doc couldn't understand how I could fracture my tibial plateau so severely w/o damaging any ligaments or tendons....which I attribute to my knee braces. I highsided with a straight leg out....The force went through my heel and straight up the tibia exploding my tibial plateau on the bottom of my femur (which luckily wasn't damaged either). The knee brace couldn't stop that force but it stopped my knee from buckling in any direction, which I think preserved my ligs and tends.

I use the X-strong knee guards as well....I love them.

I've never used braces before, so I can't compare...but of all the knee guards I've used over the years, these are BY FAR the best.

I have asterisk right now, just wasn't sure the easiest way to get a script since I have never had leg injuries luckily. Hear nothing but good things about cti2

Have asterisks ultra cells. Not a huge fan. Been 1 1/2 years since getting them. I tried on my friends k8 pods. Love the feel and weight of them. I will never go riding or snowboarding without a set on.

I blew my acl wakeboarding 12 years ago. after surgery my ortho prescribed me a cti for that leg. got a morph for the other leg. if you can afford it a cti is way better.

In my opinion they do not really do much. My son along with 3 others that I know well have had major ACL tears and knee injuries all while wearing top of the line knee braces.

Think about this , the braces hold tight above and below the knee so tight that all the force goes internal and twists so much that it results in the injuries.

WIthout a knee brace the leg and knee can react normally to a twisting or weird bend.

Now with that said who really knows, I mean back when I raced hardly anyone wore knee braces because they did not really exist and there did not seem to be very many knee injuries.

I have never wore them and been in and out of racing for 35 years and never had a knee injury. I have had plenty of crashes and broke bones so not like I have not been a Sally.
