Suzuki------> Nissan of dirt bikes. A few pleasant surprises over the years (the old 510, the z-line) but overall a cheap brand without the refinement and sophistication of its Japanese brethren.
Kawasaki------> Volvo of dirt bikes. Yes we make cars (motorcycles) but we are really big into earth moving equipment!!!
Honda---------> The Honda of dirt bikes (obviously). Reliable, dependable, well built, attention to detail....not always the boldest/in-your-face/most powerful. Comes immediately to mind when shopping for your girlfriend (civic - CRF230...etc)
Yamaha--------> The Toyota of dirt bikes. Dependability of the Honda without the sophisticated reputation. Will sometimes throw out some wild stuff too (reverse engine YZ - mid/rear engine MR2). Also can be viewed as a Mazda where the revolutionary 4-stroke YZ400 was outside the box like the rotary engine cars.
TM --------> almost any kit car
Honda: Add Kickstarter to KROC's bike
Suzuki: Hire Malcolm
Kawasaki: 2017 SX Champion
Yamaha: Hire Deano
Alta: what a debut
KTM- Consumer driven, sometimes too quick to release something new (recalls)
Honda- Quality and longevity, win or be gone with you, may not be best performing stock but is excellent starting point to hop up/personalize
Suzuki- Turning, one season race bike, RM transmissions breaking
Kawasaki- 2 stroke: Rattlecans, old 250's always rattled, 4 stroke: refined clone of Hondas '08 bike
Yamaha- used to be super slow 2 strokes, now tries to be different
TM- somebody's got $$$$$$$$
Had plenty of Suzuki's, and they have all been good in their own way, but no denying they look tired very quickly. So true about the nuts and bolts - they're still made of cheese!
Yamaha = Saddleback

Honda - Jennifer Lawrence
Suzuki - Tara Reid (old and worn out)
TM - Penelope Cruz

KTM- "I am so rich look what I bought. I bet you wish this bike was yours. It isn't though. Its mine. I am gonna spend so much money on this bike. Look how much money I have already spent on the bike. Not because it needs money spent on it but because I can." Also: How much money can you spend on a new bike this year and are you prepared to throw the bike in the garbage and buy a new one next year?
Honda- Quality, longevity and reliability performing stock and capable of winning if you are a good rider.
Suzuki- What is the point?
Kawasaki- If you are a better rider you will win unless the bike breaks down.
Yamaha- If you are the best rider you will win unless you are up against a bad ass Kawasaki rider in which case you might win. If you are up against a bad ass Kawasaki rider the best of the two of you will win unless the Kawasaki break down and you win by default, in which case who the best rider is may never be known.
