image

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 31st January 2019 – Infront today announced the acquisition of Youthstream, the owner of the exclusive television, marketing and global promotional rights to the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship until the 2036 season.

The agreement covers several other events including the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, the FIM Women's Motocross World Championship, the FIM Snowcross World Championship, the European Motocross Championship and the Motocross of European Nations. The management of the Monaco-based company will remain unchanged under the direction of President Giuseppe Luongo together with David Luongo as CEO and Daniele Rizzi as COO.

Infront's President & CEO Phillippe Blatter said: "We are very glad to welcome the Youthstream team to the Infront Group. Under the proven management and expertise, the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship has become the premier event of off-road motorsport. Following the successful ownership and management of the FIM Superbike World Championship from 2007 to 2012, this acquisition provides us once again with a long-term property ownership in international motorsport further strengthening our comprehensive portfolio. We will collaborate very closely to further optimise fan experience, content offering and ultimately grow the global community in motocross."

Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo said: "We have been successfully building this company over more than three decades and are now very much looking forward to continue to further develop our ambitious vision for motocross together with Infront as one of the leading players in global sports business. This agreement comes at the right moment for the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship and allows Youthstream to accelerate its international development. I am sure that the synergies we will generate will be of great benefit for all properties we represent.”

Julien Ternisien, Infront Vice President Summer Sports, said: "The FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship is an exciting property with a clear potential to grow even further. We are looking forward to taking the sport to the next level of commercial success by activating our extensive media and sponsorship network as well as our full suite of innovative sports solutions. This goes hand in hand with improving media sales and accelerating digital marketing activities, including further improving the MXGP-TV OTT platform for fans all over the world.”

FIM President Jorge Viegas added: “The FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship series is one of motorsports’ fastest growing and most promising properties. We are confident that Infront’s strong market position, resources and marketing capabilities combined with the strong track-record and proven expertise of Youthstream will help raise the bar even higher in terms of growth and popularity for the series.”

The FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship is considered the best off-road motorsport event in the world. Taking place across 20 top race tracks in Europe, USA, Russia, Argentina and Asia, including China and Indonesia, from March through to September/October, culminating in the prestigious Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations closing the eight-month season. I’ve been watching dirt bikes race since 2010 and I’ve seen nothing but growth for Supercross and since ive followed the GPs it’s been the same.

I hope for a bright future, perhaps more people will one day know how amazing this racing is

Define growth...

Increased viewship?

Live attendance numbers up?

Purse growing?

Bike sales?

Combination of many things I guess..

GPs have more rounds every year. Lots of new markets. Supercross has has some TV growth, lots of social media growth of Moto in general.

I used to watch it by myself.. now It’s always groups of us watching,

Meanwhile most other sports are having large declines

It's some type of scam. Probably related to taxes.

"The management of the Monaco-based company will remain unchanged under the direction of President Giuseppe Luongo together with David Luongo as CEO".

Daddy & Son still running it.

Kind of wonder if this has anything to do with the MXGP action group and the allegations of FIM corruption including FIM officials owning part of Youthstream ?

He didn't just get in lots of trouble, he took sports corruption beyond anything anyone has seen before.

A Blatter must be the worst possible owner of International motocross one could possibly imagine and just goes to confirm the lack of integrity (and complete disregard for the sport) demonstrated by Giuseppe Luongo.

From BBC October 2011

''Fifa criticised after TV rights handed to Sepp Blatter's nephew

Anti-corruption campaigners Transparency International have called on Fifa to be more open about potential conflicts of interest following the governing body's decision to award a TV deal to a company led by a relative of president Sepp Blatter.

Fifa announced yesterday it had appointed Infront Sports and Media to handle the sale of World Cup TV rights in a number of Asian countries for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

But they failed to disclose the president of Infront is Philippe Blatter, the Fifa president's nephew.''

Yes new markets like China where many cities have banned motorcycles and the whole image of motorcycles is = poor man's transportation = not cool. Motocross is really gonna take off there.

I had a look at their page http://www.infrontsports.com/ for those that are interested.

I don't see how this makes any sense? I mean, these guys sold some TV rights for football in the UAE region and maybe they have some opportunities there.. I just dont see how MXGP fits in with these guys, and why would they buy the whole damn thing? I mean the MXGP brand is more like a steaming turd about to fall of a giant cliff than some hot property that in the right hands "can be just as profitable and global as Motogp". If that's what they are envisioning, good luck to them.

Looking at their case studies I guess we can expect a mascot almost as cool as "Cooly the Cow" (not even joking..) to come our way. My pitch is "Mofo-the moto douche" , your welcome Mr. Blatter.

There must be a lot to this deal I am not seeing because as a buyer these guys look sooooo out of place. I'm thinking they were had by Mr. Luongo. who knows. Curious to see how this will develop.

I think they used to promot the WSBK championship. So there is moto & sportmarketing history in the company.
