petition to bring back ktm 200

Edited Date/Time 12/17/2015 10:58am
I think this bike should be brought back to the range
The 03/04 is said to be the perfect bike between 125 & 250 which is quite a big gap for lighter/smaller riders
Just wondered if some consumer pressure might bring it back?
Yeah I know theres a 150 Wink

Listen up ktm!

They still make a 200 xcw. And making a 150 into a 200 is just a cylinder, piston, and pipe I would guess?

...and crank, pipe, PV timer. I think putting a 200 cylinder on a 150 crank results in a 188. I seem to remember that the 200 pipe is a must as well.

Thats a good point
An out of the box sx would be good like the old models though

I sure do miss my '03 200SX. Had two of them! One of them had a lot of gremlins, the other was stone reliable. I still have some parts floating around if someone is looking to build one.

Brought it back myself. Still bought a 150 though. +1 on bringing it back. Thinking of making the 150 a 200. It the wife's bike though. Maybe parts would get cheaper?

KTM should make 175,classic cc. stroke the 150 engine. Then put some Green or Blue plastic on it.

The SX power valve is the hard to find item for converting.. Believe the spring is tailored to how the 200 spools up, so folks say the transition is different from using a 150 or 125 SX power valve. Don't really know, clean jetting on the 200 probably makes more of a difference. The 200s are just awesome bikes, had two and the last one, an 08 close ratio XC , was about perfect.

I have an '04 200EXC. It frigging rules. So much fun and does everything.
You can find them, just get one. I wouldn't sweat trying to do the SX gearbox unless you
have money to burn. I found it pretty usable for moto by going way down on the gearing.
I think I'm running 12/51 or something. Works out pretty well. And then you have a super
low first so you can go do "King of Motos"! Smile

I'll have to dig around when I'm home next week. I'm pretty sure I still have the CDI box, carburetor, frame, forks, shock. The bike had cracked cases, then the crankshaft broke (common on the 200SX), and the transmission was shot... so it's been sitting in a barn and disappearing piece by piece as I remember I still have it and list parts for sale.

Rode one back in 04. was a fun bike. had all the torque missing from a 125. it would be a perfect bike to race against 250f's

That's cool. What did it take to change up the body work?

Pretty much the biggest thing was welding a small 2 inch piece of tubing to back of the original mount for the newer subframe to bolt to.

I wish they'd put out a new 200SX with the smaller cylinder like they did for the 150SX and then wrap it in Husky trim. I'd even say use the PDS suspension as I'm not racing SX and prefer not maintaining a link system. I've been able to adjust my '08 XC's stock suspension to my liking (it's better stock than my '04 200SX with a MX Tech shock). But the new XC-W's transmission ratios, open chamber forks and electric start just don't do it for me. Unfortunately my only choice may be to buy one and substantially modify it to my liking.

The SX 200 was such a cool bike. I had an ´04 model wich I ran for almost three seasons

I have two. Fun bike to ride......I think it came out at a time when there was some confusion on how the classes will go.

Most classes today are up to a 150, so I 200 would have to run with the 250's correct????

Harescrambles and enduro's still allow 0-200 and therefore they make a bike for it.

I think some guys would be willing to give up the 50cc for rideability and lightness
And if they're letting 250 2strokes against 250f, this might be the perfect weapon?

I've got one, and I'll argue against that. Maybe not at factory level, but between myself on a 200EXC (or XC/W) with just suspension work, FMF silencer and jetted and a friend on his mildly modded CRF250 it was very even. The gear spacings up top hurt me the most on an MX track.
