The statin drugs made my joints hurt. The "cure" for me was diet, specifically low carb/keto. Good luck with getting your levels down.

I've been taking a low dose of simvastatin for several years. My level is good and no side effects I can tell. I do take COG 10 which is supposed help with the muscle aches maybe that's making a difference.

Not necessarily.

Statins have minimal to no side effects.

One thing I do see is in Europe you don't get cholesterol drugs without the CoQ10 too but here in the USA the Dr's don't even talk about it much.

Diet & exercise will only do so much , if you can take the Lipitor or Crestcor with minimal side effects and lower the numbers do it especially if you are high risk for heart disease.

As always do your research and talk to your Dr's

Thankfully I'm not on any medications, but when I am given something, being in my 40s I always ask how it effects the wood.

LOL, Who told you that, some dumb doctor?
Statins might be fine for some lame that sits on his ass all day collecting a welfare check.

Livalo is the one I could actually take without having muscle cramps continuously. It did reduce my cholesterol to a manageable level and I can moto!

It is pricey and "non-formulary" but they have a discount card program to get it to $18 a month.

Someone should lay off the chicken waffles....it's hereditary!

The latest research on this topic suggests that it might be a lot more complicated then just popping a pill to make those numbers look better. One paragraph in this article even states that increased cholesterol after the age of 50 could be healthier.

I really think reducing your weight and lifestyle factors are more important than lowering cholesterol. A cholesterol pill won't prevent you from having a heart attack if you smoke a pack a day, or are morbidly obese.
