So my discograph came back positive last month. It only took thirty days to get my spinal disc fusion scheduled. Not bad. Going in for my L5-S1 tomorrow am.
I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit nervous for this one. Thanks for everyone's feedback on the procedure the past few weeks.
If anything bad happens , I bequeath my pale blue Scott USA wraparound goggle T-shirt from 1974 to vital MX !

Best of luck and keep us posted on your recovery. It will work out just fine, Doctors these days know what they are doing.
Make sure the nurse has 44 tripple D's ... they feel real nice rubbin against a back ...

Hang in there!
Sincere appreciation to everyone for your support. Very reassuring It means a lot.
I'll post again and in 2-3 weeks with an update. I know this will probably be a common ordeal for most of mx people. I grew up racing two classes in the 70s and early 80s. I'm 6"4" 190. I know I beat the shit out of my back as most of you have I'm sure
I do have some minor leg pain which I did not have prior to surgery which is a concern but it comes and goes so I'll have to deal with it. I should know more in six weeks.
Thanks for everybody reaching out to Karen and thanks for everybody's support. Much appreciated.

My post-op my pain meds were 45 mg Oxy every 4 hrs, and I need every bit of it. I’ve started my pain medication exit plan two weeks ago. I’m down to 15 mg every four hours now. Very very pleased about that. I’m not lying, that had me worried.
Thanks again for everybody’s support.
The wife did another MRI and flexed X-rays and its looking she indeed has the L5/S1 thing. (she has been having injections for over a year ruling out periformis, SI joint, etc.)
Glad you are getting passed the drugs and moving forward.
Great to hear you as well as 29 are well on the mend.
Zero pain and no meds.
Neck collar for a few more weeks and PT in 2
Having lumbar opp in the spring. I already had an l5s1 fusion in 2014

Post-op
I started PT yesterday. Which is not sore at all but they kept me pretty light. I am fairly active during a day now Doing light exercise as much as possible , I definitely do not want to step backwards though so I need to be smart about it.
I still have some days I get up stiff and sore and it takes me a while to get loosened up. I use a cane sometimes for balance if I’m out walking around. I don’t want any jackass bumping into me. I don’t understand it, I’m 6 foot 4” and it seems that walking through malls or shops or anywhere It is tight or congested, people want to bump into you.
A couple of the questions that were asked to me:
They went into my back only. No plates on my spine. They used rods, screws, and a cage all titanium. From 2 to 5 weeks I had intermittent pain in my legs. Really weird stuff different parts of the legs and pain levels just weird. But they are gone now.
I’ll keep everybody updated, any further questions let me know. Thanks again for all the support.
