If I die of vanity, promise me, promise me,
They bury me some place I don't want to be,
You'll dig me up and transport me, unceremoniously,
Away from the swollen city-breeze, garbage bag trees,
Whispers of disease and the acts of enormity
And lower me slowly, sadly and properly
Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy,
Seriously - I have never seen this country mourn like this before, for anyone. Gord and the Hip are absolutely everywhere. Personally, it's kind of grown as the day has gone on. Hard to explain, but feels akin to the loss of a close family member. Sad deal even though we knew it was coming....

For a guy that knew it was coming it seemed as though he was at peace with it. You have to be a very strong individual to keep pushing on and continue to live your life knowing full well your journey with life is coming to an end at any moment.
He's a hell of a lot stronger than me that's for damn sure. Real inspirational individual.
I wasn't into his music but plenty of people were so it goes without saying that he will be missed by many across the globe.

As a high school and university student during the 90's in Ontario they seemed popular (I was more into skater punk and rap personally ). To me their music seemed really average, and they seemed to have lost popularity until Gordon the singer got cancer and they did that tour last summer. Today according to my face book feed they were the best Canadian band ever to many... I would not put them in the same league as Rush, The Guess Who, or Propaghandi though. Anyhow RIP, many will miss his music.
That's what makes life so cool sometimes - different strokes make different lives go around.
I'm a big Guess Who fan too - but for me the Hip is above them. I think I might even step out on a limb & put them at least up there with Rush - maybe even a bit above also. Will never forget that awesome hot summer day a few years ago they opened for the Stones here in front of 80,000 of us - epic. Best concert I have ever experienced.
