So last night at Xmas eve dinner with family we were talking about the first couple months with the puppy. (Nephew also has an Ausi). I was telling him about how she was like a little snapping shark bitting us all the time with those sharp little needle teeth. Not agressive but just over zelous play. Anyone ever raise a puppy and you know.
Phone in the pocket the whole time.
So this morning I can't open sites without advertisements for dog bite lawyers.
Any examples from you guys and gals?

Wife and I were at Target (not on our phones) looking at and talking about new bar stools.....

We get in the truck after not finding any we like, and she opens Facebook to an add for barstools staring back at her.

There’s a local radio show that has been talking about this, specifically the Facebook thing. MXKing, you need to disallow microphone access for Facebook according to them. Also, I found that iPhone will track everywhere you go, and deliver ads based on that, again unless you disallow it. I was surprised once I went through it. It had a list of every place I went along with dates/times I visited. Home Depot on this date, Target on this date, etc. It was mind blowing. I immediately turned that off. I think everyone needs to dig deep in their settings and turn all that shit off.

EDIT: I found one: Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Location Based Apple Ads

also

System Services>Signicifcant Locations has a list of everywhere you’ve visited.

It says it’s encrypted and can’t be read by Apple but who the fuck really knows. lol

I don't facebook, this must be through google.
It's happened on quite a few other occasions, things like this, but there is no way in hell this could be anything else.
About a month ago I got a notification
"Google assistant has successfully installed"
I'm like WTF? How do I get that shit back off?
Can't find out where it resides or how to remove it.
To be fair this has been happening before that though.

I don’t facebook either, but I did disallow microphone access for everything I could. If you’re on iPhone, go to Settings>Safari>Camera and Microphone access and turn that off as well as Settings>Privacy>Microphone and turn off any apps that are using your mic.

I'm not on Iphone and have not been able to find how to turn off microphone access. Maybe I'll go to sprint store this week.
How did this even become a thing. We pay a monthly fee to carry a device that spies on us 24/7

Well I had to stop wearing my tin foil hat. My daughter informed me it actually acts as an amplifacation antenna.

In all seriousness, it's just creepy. Is the convenience of what we get worth what we give up?
I don't think so!

Sure, it can't be read by Apple.

Just like Apple would never purposefully slow down your old phone so you buy a new one. WhistlingAngry

I've never noticed my phone making any suggestions based on what I am saying, but FFS I can't drive within 10 blocks of a Home Depot or Lowe's without getting some kind of "hot deal" alert on my freaking phone. If I've been searching for a particular tool or part earlier that day, it usually is geared toward that general area, if not that exact part.

I really like getting the Home Depot alert as I'm walking into Lowe's or vice versa. Saves me a trip sometimes comparing pricing!

Every day the flip phone lifestyle gets sweeter and sweeter.

Never had a smart phone. Had to get a phone through my new job last year. They told me they don't care what I get, apple or android. I told em flip's only, got a weird look back from them but they said fine.

The only disadvantage is I got to go out in the field fairly often, so I just have to print off a mapquest for directions before I leave. It just makes sure you got your ducks in a row first cuz there's no downloading something or checking email til you get back to the office. No big deal though.

The weirdest thing i had happen to my phone , i was walking from the locker room about to start work, i pulled my phone out to check how much time i had ,the screen that came up was the contact page but none of the contacts were mine ,there was like 10 of them ,all with international phone numbers . I quick turned it off and back on and everything was normal.

I hate this stuff, and would ditch my smartphone but I like being able to have information available when I need it.

My mom received one of those amazon/google talk box things for christmas, she was excited for it, I want absolutely nothing to do with any of that crap, literally inviting whoever to listen whenever they want... Although, I suspect my phone is already doing that.

Last night I was on my phone looking something up, and immediately in my gfs feed on whatever website she was on, there was an advertisement for that exact thing... It almost ruined our Christmas surprises that way.

Do not like this stuff, I really don't care if the government knows what I'm up to as I have nothing to hide, but I hate how absolutely everything is linked up. It was hard just to get the tablet that is on my phone plan to work as it's own independent device with none of my personal info on it... Just wanted something to watch videos on or whatever.

I was leaving for work one morning, told my wife my knee was hurting (typical mx'er). Get to work and log-in to my work computer with my work sign-in and password and I am getting ads for knee treatments.

It's okay, the Google/Alphabet CEO quit his job to head the Pentagon's Defense Advisory Board (he's also Bilderberger, Trilateral Commission). The Pentagon board also includes Bezos, who obviously owns the Post and Amazon.
I for one welcome our new overlords. They are going to figure out what is fake news and tell us what is reality.

Just last week I was driving through town and this guy driving next to me changed lanes without signaling and nearly clipped the front of my car. I muttered "You flaming asshole, you just about ripped off my front fender! You should be shot!"

Waiting at the next intersection, the video reader board played display ads for Preparation H, a local body shop, and a gun sale at a local sporting goods store.

Freaky...........

I had the same thing happen. I had called my mom and asked her to buy my giant kid a new bed, and i would pay her back. Retired people have time for that type of stuff. never once did i google beds, or go into a bed store. Then mattress ads start popping up on my phone and instagrams account. I don't have a waste book. I think they are listening too. Im thinking of asking my mom to buy something random to see if i get some ads for it.

How businesses use Big Data is still in its infancy stages but the collection of it has been around for a while. Disabling the microphone in all stored apps will help some but it is not a total solution. Hey, at least you no longer have to go thru the Sunday paper to see who has a sale on steaks and Sugru.
