Maynard James Keenan writes again, do i agree with what he says, not really, but i like his music, just thought i would post here,

apparently most of the music written has to do with his MOMs physical health condition and how she still tends to be a christian, and never question the lord on his plans for her. Maynard cant seem to accept things happen and you shouldn't question the lord, at least thats what i take from my perspective,

any one else got any perspectives they would like to chime in?

Pumped for the new album

New songs are Descending, and Invincible.

For starters.

I know the last album touched on those topics. His mom died quite a few years ago. You sure the new album is also about his mom's long term illness and faith?

Was thinking that very same thing.

And I'm not sure I'd call around 20 minutes of content devoted to his mom as "touching on the subject."

Fair point. The album title is also a referemce to the duration of her illness. Clearly it was a key element to the album's overall concept

Looking forward to it. If it's anything like previous releases, I'll be listening a lot...usually while working for driving...so pretty much all the time. Wink

TOOL is both my and my fiance's favorite band all-time. Finally were able to get tickets to a concert a couple years ago, best live show we've ever seen. We already have it all planned out...August 30th is a Friday, we get off work, restock our Margarita supplies, come home and crank the new album full blast from beginning to end non-stop.

I was just listening to Maynard's podcast with Rogan. He said their entire catalog will be available on digital and streaming services this Friday (August 2). Looking forward to it.

That's not fair, Steve. I know I've been a crotchety ole rascal lately, but a highlight of my life will be meeting you at WW. You're a good man with a tough job. I wish you nothing but the best.

Saw them in Columbus Ohio. Bizarre band. Bizarre show. Everyone was all talking like it was the best show ever. I didn’t really think so. Im not real into tool. They didn’t really interact with the crowd. Wore what looked to be full body armor. Plates and all. And a combat helmet. Still enjoyed the show but wasn’t like blown away.

Have seen them 15 times, most recent was front row at red rocks 2010. Tool is a religious experience if your mind is open. You truly need a different perspective from the other sheep to grasp their depth. A mixture of Pink Floyd and led Zeppelin, perfectly intertwined and taken to the next level. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong 😎

Pleasantly surprised by the new song, doesn't feel like a repeat of 10,000 days. Can't wait for the new album!

Heard them live in late June this year. They played two of the new songs. Saw them live on the 10.000 Days tour also. It´s a very cool experience to see them live, if you are into music, not just shows. I don´t care for sub par music with pyro and other distractions to create a show. All I want to hear is the best band in the world play better live than their recorded songs.

Yeah, just heard through it. I’m really underwelmed and disappointed to be honest. Few actual songs, lots of stupid intermissions. After waiting 13 years, I was expecting more.

Good songs:
- Fear Inculum
- Invincible
- Descending
- 7empest (started off generic, picked up halfway through)

Just my opinion. Will have to listen through it many more times. Some of the stuff can grow on you once you understand it

Definitely gotta give it more listens.. The song Fear Inoculum I was pretty disappointed in the first two times I heard it, gave it a couple more listens and its almost in my top 10 favorite tool songs, this band is also known for having songs that take a few listens to grow on you. Havent made it through this whole album yet, so far I'm enjoying it.

Personally thought Descending was great. Heard they've played it live at some occasions but first time I ever heard it.

kind of weird that the new album is on spotify, seeing as Tool has not been on spotify for as long as i can remember. A Perfect Circle has been on there, but i've never seen Tool.

edit... just checked and they have their entire discography up. i still remember when i got the Aenemia CD, man that was a great album.

Yeah, it was released on Spotify just this month. I read an article in a rock magazine that they were the first band to have ten songs all on the top 10 streams the first week their albums were released.
Too bad they didn’t release Salival on Spotify. I reckon the versions of Third Eye and Pushit were better than the studio versions

The album is growing on me, but so far it doesn’t have the massive tunes of Ænima and 10000 Days. But I like that the songs are long and moody. Not much punch though, more psychedelic

Of course there were a lot of people at the concert I was at in Columbus dropping acid and smoking weed. Maybe if I was mind altered I would of agreed with everyone around me best show ever stuff....

After one full listen, I like it. But don't love it. Instrumentally, it's great, but lacks any super memorable moments. None of the vocals are memorable to me at all, very subdued and in the background, don't really add much to the songs. I like that the songs are longer, they definitely take you on a journey, but theres no big "payoff" moments.

After one lap with it I think I’d agree with all of that. All the heavy, and virtuosity I’d expect on the instrumental side, but Maynard seems to have taken a vacation on this one.

7empest is my favorite so far I think, I remember the beginning having some more angrily delivered vocals that reminded me of early Tool

Holy crap Blink I lucked out when someone didn't pick up their pre order, felt wrong paying $75 for a CD, but I figured what the hell. It's slowly growing on me, Pneuma keeps getting stuck in my head. Still wish Maynard had some more powerful vocals/melodies.

It (7empest) kinda reminds me of Three Days (Jane’s Addiction). The non vocal parts. I dont know, just has a similar sound/feel to me
