I also put in a word with the big guy. No promises but it can't hurt. Make sure to look her in the eyeballs and tell her how much you love her. Chicks dig that shit.
Thoughts and prayers from SoCal brother.

I’m praying for you both as well.
Oh, brother, I feel your pain.
All you can do is be the man that you are, and, care for your loved one.
You got this, and lean on me if you need to. I'm presently living in a world I never knew existed.
Prayers sent for you and your wife, and I have some others who will join.
Not sure what you think about that, but it can't hurt.
Let us know what's happening, brother.

Man life is abusive. You are like family around here and we are keeping you in our thoughts.
Thoughts are with you… hope your next message to us all is to tell us just how well it’s all gone.
cheers patrick
Strength and prayers sent to you both.
Prayers and positive thoughts for you and your loved ones. Please keep us posted
How is your wife doing Aplman?
Thanks, guys!
Pre-op stuff going on now, they said that they’ll come get her in about a half hour (7AM).
This is her second chest opening and they say those are more cumbersome because of the hardware and scar tissue. Told me to expect a slightly longer surgery than last time because of that, so it could be afternoon before they’re done.
The next 4-6 hours are obviously going to feel like a week’s time……
Best wishes and prayers for you both.
I can't imagine what you are going through...
Jimmy
Sending prayers and positive vibes your way. Keep us posted...
Kevin,
Hope all is going well with your wife and she recovers fine.
Hoping that the day went “smooth & easy” & that both of you are doing well.
Prayers for your better half, Aplman. Hope for a speedy recovery.
Lucky for me, I was on the table and not in the waiting room like my wife was when I had a 12 1/2 hour surgery to remove an “aggressive” tumor from my neck last December. I recovered from that and I’m sure your wife will get over this procedure as well. Best wishes.
Thanks, everyone.
They took her to surgery at about 7 AM, she got to her recovery room in ICU about 4:30 PM. Quite a bit longer than I expected but the nurse kept updating every hour or so and that definitely helped lower the stress. Being the second time, it took a while to make sure that they got every bit of the old tissue valve and that they sized the new one correctly. Doctor said it’s working perfectly but that the old one was probably farther gone than what they had originally thought so it’s a good thing that we didn’t wait or anything. She had thought of waiting until we decide about the potential Texas move and a trip to look things over down there. Glad we didn’t do that!!!
She’s still pretty zoned out and it sounds like they are intentionally bringing her back up to speed slower than the last time, but she’s already been able to lose the breathing tube and such.
Time for some sleep, didn’t get any to speak of last night!
Best news all day thanks for the updates
Pit Row
That's great news aplman! I can't imagine waking up with the breathing tube still installed. That's great that you didn't wait. Give Mrs. Apl a great big hug from us all!
TM
Reese, the tissue valve was originally described to us as ‘likely’ to last for around 15 years, but obviously they never guaranteed that. Just this last spring Abbott put out a bit of a ‘warning’ that a significant number of patients with this valve were having very early calcification issues, but she was never told by anyone. After her stroke we were made aware of it, and in the last month or so they have stopped using that valve altogether. We are lucky that they found her issue when she had the stroke, and that the stroke was mild and fully recoverable from.
She had a really good night but obviously still a lot of pain so she’s pretty medicated. Hopefully going from ICU to a regular bed later today, but now it sort of looks like it may be tomorrow.
Thank you, everyone. It always surprises me how kind words from a bunch of jackwagons that you’ve never actually met can lift your spirits!!!!
Great to hear she is doing well.
Truly great news....
So glad she is doing well!
Best regards
Yeah, bro, glad she's going the right direction.
Prayers for continued good news.
Any updated good news to share?
Great news. You can take a breath now.
I’ve been busy all day and just now checked in. I was wondering how things were going. This is great news, APL. I hope and will be praying that it keeps going your way!
Overall a really good day today. Less pain meds and she was able to walk a little bit (didn’t leave the room, though!).
She’s able to sit up in a chair for a couple hours at a time and her lungs are staying clear and strong. She got moved out of ICU just after 6PM so after getting her settled in her new room I came home to eat, sleep, and head back first thing tomorrow. Sounds like she is fully on track for being sent home Monday still, so I think that I’ll be enjoying hospital food lunches for a few more days!
Great to hear!
As much as I bitch about health care costs and red tape...the surgery your wife just had is miraculous, really.
No telling what is coming in the future.
Thanks for the all the updates and stokes to hear the progress…
