There was a thread only a month or two ago about exactly this, but I can't find it either. Even site searching on google I couldn't...

Anyway, I formulate and engineer lubricants for powersports machines. Not exciting per se, but there are some interesting moments.

Sweet!! What oil do you run in your bikes? Do you run a secret blend of unobtanium?
I run the regular stuff off the shelf, but that is mostly because I suck and it would be a waste to run the good stuff...

The unobtanium is reserved for the dyno bikes and to the pro teams. Those are the interesting moments.

That information is something that I cannot discuss here for several reasons; but if you wanted to find out, I'm pretty out in the open.

Thanks, that's our T-shirt. And yes I feel lucky everyday. I'm not sure anyone becomes a pool guy on purpose, it just sort of happens Wink But once they dig that hole they're pretty much stuck with them. I hear people say "A pool is like a boat", ....true, except you can sink a boat. The pool's not going anywhere haha. Kidding aside yes it's given me enough consistent work to buy a house and raise 2 kids in San Clemente, like I said before I feel lucky everyday Cool

Lucky indeed that's awesome! Used to live in oceanside by the beach just south of the pier on Pacific Drive. Orange County / North County is prime area. Not too far from SD and LA. Great beaches and not terribly far from the tracks inland. Sounds like you got a good gig out there enjoy!

Definitely some cool stuff in here. I'm a construction superintendent for mostly residential construction. Worked as a general foreman in various Oil Refineries for Exxon as well. Currently in school changing my career path to become a Paramedic/Firefighter.

In school with 3 semesters left for mechanical engineering. Had an internship this summer at a steel and wire mill mostly updating/making CAD drawings for fence machines. They were running fence machines dating clear back to the early 1900's, pretty cool with a ton of history and I learned a lot but man talk about a dangerous place. Especially on the steel mill side. Accepted an internship for this upcoming summer with an industrial door closer manufacturer for product engineering.

Any advice for mechanical engineering in the midwest area? Good/cool jobs to look out for?

I'm an entrepreneur but I don't know how to spell it without spell check. I own a truck wash facility beside the 4 lane for over the road trucks. It is a real pain in the ass. My family business since 1991 is manufacturing outdoor furniture www.hyrescountryhaven.com
I am recently married and my wife is from Indonesia. So I started a business with about 90% focus on exports in hopes that it will make traveling to SE. Asia easier for the both of us. Thinking if we have a reason to travel she can make it back to see her family and friends potentially more often and have trips paid for more easily. So far it has been interesting and I enjoy the work. I provide products for industrial liquid waste streams in a large number of industries. My product focus is on cost effective, environmentally friendly alternatives to harsh chemicals and environmental remediation. We work a lot with oil and gas and refineries because one of our specialties is solidification of their waste material. So far it has worked because we have gotten to travel to Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia a couple times now as well as South Africa and Mexico. www.dwnline.com

I also work with a friend of mine who owns a sawmill and logging business. I handle his exports of American hardwood lumber and veneer logs to China and a few other places. I guess you can say I'm a trade merchant...???.. Import/Export seem to be my thing.

Operations Manager at a 1.5 million sq.ft. facility for a nationwide warehousing company. The job found me and it has it's days but I'm normally happy to be there and it makes me feel good knowing that I'm responsible for you bastards receiving your goods on time.

I worked for a major airline, and handled your luggage like it was my own...Whistling worked 4 year's on the ramp and 24 year's in parts. The coolest thing I didn't intentionally do was name a boat, and that boat is Procraft, back in 73 or maybe 74.

Nothing too exciting.....

I manage contractors at the largest combonination gas and electric public utility in the country. Roughly 30 million dollars of spend, dealing mostly with capital investments to perform natural gas main replacement on our system of over 26,000 miles of pipeline.

Where did you go to work at Matt? Good luck man, seems it picked back up when I was overseas last year.

I am a Independent Oil/Gas Foreman. I just left a stint in Saudi Arabia and back in 'Merica working at my previous employer now that they picked up again.

I work for Alstom Hydro (merged with GE now) building and rebuilding hydro generators. There is years of work on the Columbia River in Washington State replacing and rewinding generators that were built in the 40s 50s and 60s. It takes about a year to assemble a completely new stator and rotor. Here is a stator during a core loop test. And another of the same stator completed with windings being flown down to its hole.

I own a small business selling landscape and concrete supplies. I started it 10 years ago and have been doing pretty good. It's allowed my wife to stay at home with our 4 kids, which I'm very thankful for.
