1987 KDX 80

Edited Date/Time 3/21/2018 1:19am

I bought this today off Craigslist, and it has been very gone through, but still needs quite a bit of cleanup and finishing touches. It's my girlfriends first bike (she's a pretty small chick) and is the perfect bike for her to learn on and a cool project for me to polish up and perfect.

Someone in this bikes life decided it would be a good idea to paint the plastics whatever color that is.

I do have a couple questions though, that some of you might be able to answer.
Do you know of any parts that cross reference between the KX 80 and KDX 80?
Who is the best plastic manufacturer for vintage bikes like this?
Best vintage exhaust connection?
Any other tips or tricks on restoring an old cycle like this?

Thanks! Looking forward to continue to work on this thing and make it truly cherry.

By that a cool little beast, pretty rare I'd imagine too. Probably a lot of interchangeability with the kx. Nightmare racing might make the plastics

DC makes the plastics, they are the same as an 83-85 KX 80. Other than you don’t need a rad cover...

Practically a bulletproof bike imho... Had one in grade school. Great bike to learn with. Nice ez powerband, very forgiving. A KX80 will devour it, but I think it was based off the air cooled KX, in a trail style package. So perhaps KX 80 parts from 82 -83 might swap? Too bad it got stolen out of my old friends back yard when we were kids. He lived close to a highway...That was like 25 to 30 years ago and i am still pissed about that. I would put
my 8 yr old boy on it if i still had it...Team Green ☺ Good luck and hope the lady has fun...

the chassis is more like an older kx 60, plastic is very very similar as well and you can probably make it work. both my cousin and grade school friend had these while i had a 91' kx 80. The KX definitely ate its lunch but it was a great little bike.

Cool bike. Interested if the wheels are 12” and 14” or 14” and 17”.

Btw, Thrasher T Shirts are very popular here in Oz at the moment. I always ask if the poseurs know who Tony Alva is? No luck so far
