Want to thank Stevie again for the advice on making the shocks fit on my 78 CR 250. Contrary to shock builders claims, most piggy back shocks will not bolt up on the CR. Had to modify the shock pocket to allow full rotation of the shock under extension and compression. After installing the shocks, found the reservoirs won't clear the silencer. In my case, we shortened the can of the DG silencer 1.75 inches. We the removed the stinger tube, and took a piece of 4130 tubing and put a slight arch in it. Under full compression, it was very close to contacting the stinger, so we flared it a bit to maintain volume, and put a recess in the bottom of the pipe. Looks simple, but it took a bit of work!

Thanks again Stevie!

Believe silencers for the 80 are configured differently in the intake to accommodate the piggybacks. The holly folks sell two different silencers for the 78-79 and for the 80 bike respectively.

I'm in the process of buying a new 250 from Don S. that has the Noleen shocks. Curious as to how good they work

Have heard good reports from several people. Haven't made up my mind whether or not to ride this thing...... has gone waaaaay over budget. I'm building it with the assumption that I will race it at some point, so all the mods and $$ is being allocated to that end. I have an '84 YZ 250 I am currently tweaking to ride with the old guys.........cool

yea I'm having that dilemma with this bike too - it's so beautiful and so perfect, but also would be so great to ride and race!!!

How long did it take for you to get your Noleen shocks, from order to receiving?

Very nice, the bike brings back memories for me. I had a 79 CR250. Why is the cylinder head not painted?

Bike looks great! Will look forward to seeing the finished product.

Mine is still slow going. In the mean time swatdoc keeps collecting more CR’s and Newman I just can’t compete with his collection

Interested in that shift lever. Is that a one off or available?

The lever is from an early KTM 250. It has the correct splines. The length is perfect, but the bend (looking from the top) is wrong. I am going to have my fab guy cut and tig weld it to obtain a better fit bringing it closer to the cases. The pinch bolt will be rotated back a little as well to clear the kick lever.

Your building a awesome CR. I know the pain...78-80 CR250s are the money sucking add-on kings. I have 4...and it shocked me how much I had in a motofox one.....ridiculous. But if your having fun, and can afford it to the end...they are a nice running bike and gorgeous too.
