'92 WR500... Unadilla build

***update*** Building the bike last-minute for mx rewind. Always wanted to, finally have the schedule to go.

Trying to research if I can make some SSS KYB's off a late-model YZ fit my '92 WR500 (or like-generation YZ250). Any pointers?

I would start with measuring your stock fork outer diameter at the triple clamp mounting points. Then get measurements from late model SSS forks & see where you are at. The easiest would be to find forks that slide right into your clamps. That way you don't have to consider bearings & frame stops. If you are going to convert to a newer front end try to get the complete front end top to bottom, brakes, wheel, spacers ect. Might as well upgrade your brakes while you at it. I installed a complete KYB SSS front end on a 1990 KX500 by just having my upper clamp bored for 50.00$. I thought about using the YZ clamps but, different bearing sizes, stem Lengh and steering Stops would have made much more work out of the swap.

Thanks guys, solid advice.

Pete, are you using a YZ swingarm? I noticed you ditched the snail cams for axle blocks. Beautiful bike, I also really like the pipe. Did you also have the RM250 with conventional forks? Always thought that would be sweet.

A complete 2015 YZ250F front end will be arriving today. We'll see how it works and go from there. She waits patiently.

Update: The whole front end fits, no problem! Had to add material to the steering stops to keep the tank protected. Really excited to be riding on SSS with decades-newer brake tech.

Suspension was sent off to Enzo for a rebuild, and hubs to Dubya for a burnt bronze cerakoting with gold excels. Dirt Digits is handling the graphics duty. Pretty stoked.

Any tips on getting the tank a little whiter?

Awesome, see you there. I'd like an aluminum Bormi tank at some point. Just put a touch of bling on (and couldn't find an original).

Correct. It has been in the family for over 25 years, but we have been slowly introducing it for sale. It's a treasure.

That pipe turned out great! Dubya USA just finished the wheel build. I kept the 18" rear, and had them do the magnesium cerakote with excels for it and the 2015 front.
