Just about finished with this 98 CR500 restoration for a buddy, powder coated frame, wheels, hubs, calipers, rear shock all coated or painted. Weather is changing quick, figured I get a couple picture and share, still on the fence with the seat cover. Cylinder is ported to the spec factory teams used back in the day, really smoothes the hit allowing power to the ground

What you guys think

Nice build! Steelie CR500's are BEAST!

Personally I don't like the color competition from the frame versus Flo Red plastic. Could just be the lighting throwing it off in the pics.

Very nice.. the frame does clash with the plastic color a little. Those tripple clamps look like late model Yamaha units?? Also, if the lines on the front of the seat and the lines on the tank graphic were parallel to each other, it would flow better, but still a great looking build!

Nice looking bike.

I'm currently debating whether to do my CRE500 frame in Red, or the original white. I've both new White and Red plastics sets sitting by for the day I 'beautify' the old beast / teddy bear. Your bike has given me a 'push' towards the Red.

I applaud anyone who's not destroying a good Steelie for an AF build. A trashed one, well, fair enough.....

Look to the earlier version CRF 250 - 450 Front Fenders for a way to make the bike look even better. They really look the part - far better than the original, ancient Fender. I think the early CRF ( perhaps it was a difference between the 2003 / 2007 CR 125 / 250 Front Fender and the CRFs - or even the X's?) had 2 very slightly different widths to them . I always use the very slightly wider one as I'm mainly an Off Roader these days.

I personally think it's "Perfect" . I only hope that the bike is used for what it was made for. Smile

Thanks for the input, I am aware of the difference in color between the frame and fenders, suddel but obvious, I had the front fender from a newer model, I had actually did the 08 front fender on my 88 CR250 build, I did get the idea of painting the triple clamps and calipers after seeing the Yamaha triples, I may do a set of hub in the future also. Always like the look of factory Showa forks the lower legs we're black. Doing the 39.5mm Air Stryker carb kit from Carb parts warehouse. addressing the frame color, a white frame just didn't do it for me, Red all the way!

Thoughts on the Michelin tires, ever since I used them a couple years back at a vintage race I've been hooked, look awesome and work so good for me.

More parts to completed are arriving each day.

Thanks all!

If talking about the Starcross 5 , I first tried them on my vintage YZ -125 and I immediately bought a new set for my newer YZ 125. Great tire and the Medium wears really good.
