Were the forks from the very late 70,s and very early 80,s that special.

Of course of what we know, in 82 Brad Lackey chose Simmons USD forks over the works KYB supplied on his factory Suzuki.
Looking at RJ's factory 86 CR250 recently it had adjusters on the top caps (rebound adjusters I'd assume as the stockers had compression adjusters on the bottom). RJ spoke about liking the damping of the conventional versions better but liked the stiffness of the USD version and that's why he used the USD forks mostly for supercross back then...
Lets hope they had some stiffer spring rates than the wimpy rates offered to the public back then too!!
