I started a build on a 74 Maico 250 that I would like to make into a 450 reed motor, if you would like to follow along and give me ideas on what to do on the build, please do. I'm not a expert on restoring bikes, so I value your input and ideas. Thanks DG

I noticed you mention Robert Haag on the shocks. Same Haag that was famous for all the FMF ported Elsinore cylinders back in the day???

I don’t know if it is the same Robert Haag or not. I have the cylinder up in OR. At Superior Sleeve, welding a reed valve manifold on the cylinder and the reed is a V Force for a Honda 250 four wheeler. DG

I am sort of partial but try and find a Thor Swingarm, I have seen the stock one fail (break).

I called on the top end this week and they are waiting on the rubber manifold for it, I will post some close up photos of the reed and ports. I have never heard of Sammy, what Maico parts does he have or sale? DG

I was on Ebay looking at some Koni Shocks that Robert Haag had for sale and in the add he sayed this" After doing the cylinder porting for FMF racing for nearly 2 decades, we've now turned the craftsmanship and attention to detail to restoring and racing with Konis since '01, and we're always looking to buy 76 Series and GP Konis, and also have new shafts available" So Yes he did do all the porting for FMF. Robert Haag rebuilt an old pair of Konis for me last year. I'm very happy with his work. Great guy to deal with.

DG, you have a great project going, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mosslander and Andy. I have been slow getting stuff on, but I did get some new parts that I will post in the next week. I have been busy the last week or two, buying some land to make a old school vintage track. I picked up 35 acres to build it on, it has a lot of Elevation change and not a rock for a mile. DG

I added some new posts on the Maico 450 build. It was a long time between posts because we where so busy. I picked up 35 acres of river bottoms to build a vintage track on. It was a lot of work cutting old trees out and clearing off the weeds but we have a good starting point now for a vintage, post vintage track. I also posted on what I think it takes to get a Maico clutch to work .

Thanks! I also like to see what other people are building, where they get there parts along with the problems they have with there build. I'm hoping to try some new ideas I have for the trans and clutch on this bike, if it works, it will also work on your 490. DG
