Parts can be found. Electro fusion cylinder coating sucks. Check the entire frame for cracks. Ride it on cloudy days so pulling it's shadow won't slow you down more. Good looking bikes. Rare for a reason

I thought the 81 was ported different than the A6 and fast. I remember the test . Revved to 12000 rpm.

so I’m going to send it off to millennium and get nikasil plated... next vintco has some top end kits—-piston, rings, gaskets.. the pistons are from Germany are they worth a damn or look for oem??

The 81 was not slow,,the 1980 was
I pulled lots of holeshots in 1981 on the Kx,,,class was full of Rm125s and Yz125s
I dont know what kaw did to the motor in 81,,but it was not slow
The 80 and 81 looked the same, but they were not,,just make sure its a 1981

Hell ya that’s good to know it will be a fast bike when I get it back... it’s very hard finding info on these bikes.

I practiced 3 times a week,,raced probably 20 times in 81
Not one problem,,I think I did the top end 5 times that year
Maybe I got a good one,,but it was very reliable for me

Send cylinder to Tom Morgan to port. Replating the cylinder is a great idea
My friend advanced the tmng and cut the back of the piston. I never rode it but he said it was fast and he had good results .
Keep fresh o rings for the exhaust manifold. They were the worst leakers. When they do they sound horrible SD power really drops
