I decided to get back into riding MX last year after taking 5 years off after battling injury. I couldn't justify getting a new bike, so I decided to search for a Honda CR250. At first I wanted a 1995 or 1996, my dad had one when I was kid racing, and the McGrath era was EPIC. I couldn't find a decent bike, but I found an extra ugly, but very low hour 2002. I had a 2005 CRF450 in 2005 and loved it, so I knew I'd enjoy the 2002 bike.
Here is the bike as I got it for $1600
Tear down and full clean. Rebuild the forks, new OEM top end, new brake pads, all fresh fluids. V-Force, PC works pipe and 304 shorty, new sprockets and chain, new throttle cable, tube, twinwall bars, and fresh tubes and tires.
Brand new Keihin PWK 38 also
Bike all back together, 2015 Cycra front fender and number plate

This was all done in 2015. Since I've added a few more things. Magura hydraulic clutch...amazing, Lightspeed TI pegs, Service Honda clutch cover.
Here is the bike as of today
My one personal nit pick...I like the 05+ CR250 fender over the newer 4 stroke fender.
The Shop
tip, use a 05 cylinder base gasket to lower the cylinder .010 and the next single best mod is get the head squish fixxed by rb designs, single best mod on that motor imo.
post the next one you build to lol!
Yeah I just got my 95 delivered yesterday. It's already got a rebuild, but I'll slowly do more to it.
ive always wanted a 95-96 as a decoration piece.
as for the engine its not for power or speed it just makes it so much more user friendly. My next 2 250 2 strokes after my 02cr250, 05 rm250, 06 yz250. The cr250 motor needs help in stock form is all.
Video from the other day
I have only ridden the 95 for about 30 minutes. The engine is still breaking in. The bike feels a lot different, tighter cockpit and narrow. It seemed to handle pretty good though, suspension was a little soft and shock rebound a little fast. I'll get her dialed in though, it's gonna be a fun bike to ride.
Pit Row
Got the new parts on. Had an o-ring chain on before, drive train was not free at all. The rear wheel is free spinning much better now, excited to go ride it soon. Also excited to try out the 50 on the rear. I was feeling like I was never really in the right gear, like I needed to up shift, but the up shift would be real late. I think now I'll be able to shift where and when I want.
Got the Bud Racing carbon silencer and a few Lightspeed carbon parts to put on.
Galfer Wave 270mm rotor installed. Can't wait to go ride this baby tomorrow with all the new parts on her!
See what I mean.
