I decided to get back into riding MX last year after taking 5 years off after battling injury. I couldn't justify getting a new bike, so I decided to search for a Honda CR250. At first I wanted a 1995 or 1996, my dad had one when I was kid racing, and the McGrath era was EPIC. I couldn't find a decent bike, but I found an extra ugly, but very low hour 2002. I had a 2005 CRF450 in 2005 and loved it, so I knew I'd enjoy the 2002 bike.

Here is the bike as I got it for $1600

Tear down and full clean. Rebuild the forks, new OEM top end, new brake pads, all fresh fluids. V-Force, PC works pipe and 304 shorty, new sprockets and chain, new throttle cable, tube, twinwall bars, and fresh tubes and tires.

Brand new Keihin PWK 38 also

Bike all back together, 2015 Cycra front fender and number plate

I wanted a HRC MXGP look, so I had custom graphics designed. Fusion Graphics did an amazing job

This was all done in 2015. Since I've added a few more things. Magura hydraulic clutch...amazing, Lightspeed TI pegs, Service Honda clutch cover.

She's a pure rider, and she rides awesome! I plan to keep the bike forever and pass it down to my son. I will be doing another facelift sometime this year. I'm going to do a more modern version of a RC 2002 replica ish look. I love Hondas, actually getting a MC replica 95 CR250 delivered today. The plan is to have a more modern replica, not exact, and rideable MC 95 and RC 02.

Here is the bike as of today

Bike looks good!

My one personal nit pick...I like the 05+ CR250 fender over the newer 4 stroke fender.

sick! i miss my 02 somedays.

tip, use a 05 cylinder base gasket to lower the cylinder .010 and the next single best mod is get the head squish fixxed by rb designs, single best mod on that motor imo.

post the next one you build to lol!

Yeah I for sure want to do a little engine work. I'm not racing, just enjoying riding again. The engine runs pretty good, but I think it can be better for sure.

Yeah I just got my 95 delivered yesterday. It's already got a rebuild, but I'll slowly do more to it.

that thing is beautiful!

ive always wanted a 95-96 as a decoration piece.

as for the engine its not for power or speed it just makes it so much more user friendly. My next 2 250 2 strokes after my 02cr250, 05 rm250, 06 yz250. The cr250 motor needs help in stock form is all.

Nice find! These CR's seem to be getting more and more expensive.

I love how the bud silencers have the hinge. How does the 95 go compared to the 02?

Yeah I mounted the silencer, but it doesn't seem too solid. It rocks side to side a bunch, not sure if that is correct or not.

I have only ridden the 95 for about 30 minutes. The engine is still breaking in. The bike feels a lot different, tighter cockpit and narrow. It seemed to handle pretty good though, suspension was a little soft and shock rebound a little fast. I'll get her dialed in though, it's gonna be a fun bike to ride.

Yeah I bought it in AZ and had it shipped to MO. Just got it Wednesday. Seems pretty decent, but already found a few little hiccups, so I'm gonna tear it all down and go through it. All the parts on it are awesome though, bike is gonna be solid, happy with the find.

Putting on a couple new parts on the 2002 today. Going from 13/49 to 13/50 with fresh Renthal sprockets and chain. WC radiator braces, Galfer wave rear rotor, waiting on my oversized wave rotor for the front. Then just some cosmetic stuff, black mud guard and black chain guard.

Got the new parts on. Had an o-ring chain on before, drive train was not free at all. The rear wheel is free spinning much better now, excited to go ride it soon. Also excited to try out the 50 on the rear. I was feeling like I was never really in the right gear, like I needed to up shift, but the up shift would be real late. I think now I'll be able to shift where and when I want.

How do you like the bud silencer? I have a CR250AF 2014 and used a 2002 Pro-circuit silencer with a braket. It does the job but doesn't look nice finish. Can you move the silencer bracket around to adjust it (fore aft)?

See what I mean.

Well the 95 has been a struggle. The guy that built it didn't seem to do a great job. Engine seized after only a few laps. Gotta tear it all down and go through it, it seemed pretty awesome though. Cockpit is much tighter than my 02.

Yeah you should be able to just use that one mounting position. I am struggling getting mine mounted correctly, I need to mess with it a little more.
