Anyone have luck running a higher compression piston in their 15 crf450. Pros and cons would be great! Also, I’m not planning to run race fuel, I hear that plays into the equation. Thanks in advance to all recommendations.

Im on 13.5. On pump fuel it pings when it's hot and heavy sand. Stock cam though.
Wiseco racers choice was a heavier piston. I'd go Cp x piston again.

Dont have one in a crf, have them in my KXs. They run a lot better with race gas. Way more power. When i first started using race gas, i really noticed how much it woke up the bike.

Pros is more power.

Cons is you need race gas. At least a 50/50 mix.

My 450 has a CP 13.5, stage 1 hotcams, and a tokyo mods remapped ecu and it wont run on pump gas correctly - even before the cams and remap. Full race gas only in it.

The 250F Has a wiseco in it and it runs ok on pump gas, but im not going to be running pump gas in it regardless.

Good to know KB228. I purchased 13.1 wiseco kit. Hoping it won't create issues running recreational gas 90 octane ethanol free. Also looking to put a stage 2 hot cam kit in for mid to top gains.

With cams you 100% will require race gas. Id suggest a remap to maximize your results. Its only $120 after taxes at tokyo mods.

Not really as the cams lower the comp because of the overlap

Jrewing, I tend to follow your logic. Reading so much on the topic, seems every bike kinda responds differently to the upgrades. Only way to know is to send it! Trying to find a deal on a cam now, but no luck yet. Prob. run stock cam until a deal pops up and swap it out.

I run stock cam and am happy with it. No need for stiffer valve springs. I run titanium valve retainers to lighten the valve train. I cleaned up the bowls in particular the short side radius.
I'd suggest a vortex Ecu instead of the cam. My bike runs strong.
Have you had your bottom end apart yet with the recall. I put a pro x crank in at that time which weighed the same as stock( dare say it comes from the same Japanese manufacturer) and I had the run out adjusted.

Sick, going with SS kibblewhite valves and spring kit, also high comp wiseco piston and rings. Might do more upgrades later, but hopefully this will be all I need to make her more durable and peppy.
