I have a 2018 KTM 150SX and went to put on a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket which is 1 tooth more than stock. When I put the chain on it wont fit between the sprocket and the case guard. Has anyone else had this problem? I could take the guard off but it scares me because the chain is really close to the hydraulic clutch and il worried that there wouldnt be anything between that and the chain. Thoughts?

Your options are to remove the guard, buy an aftermarket guard thats smaller(if theres one out there) or buy a rear sprocket thats 3 teeth smaller which is the same as going up one on the countershaft.

I wouldnt feel all that safe running no guard. Just because if the chain breaks your motor will take the worst of it.

Had the same issue with mine, I just cut away at the guard until it fit. Not the most comfortable feeling knowing what might happen if the chain were to break, but the odds of breaking a chain are pretty slim under most conditions and proper maintenance. It looks sketchy, but I haven't had any issues yet.

Thanks for the help. I thought about cutting away some of that guard too. Ill do that for now and look into a different cover. Ive seen some clutch slave covers that looked like they would work.

So the 2018 250 SX-F comes with a 14t front. The countershaft protector on that bike is a different part number then the 18 150SX. Maybe that will fit your larger sprocket, not sure if all the holes will line up though...

Interesting. I might take mine down to the dealer to compare with a 250 and see. Thanks
