2016 KTM 250sxf Map switch (handlebar)

Hello.

The 2016 ktm sxf models come with the map switch on the handlebar but after buying another one and it breaking straight away due to the connection being at a very tight angle these come away straight away and prevent you from choosing between the 2 modes and launch control.

Does anyone know if the 2017 version on the left side will work on the 2016 models just obviously the traction control won’t woek ?

Thanks

Craig

I had the exact same thing happen. I just replaced it and it seemed like the replacement stock part held up better. Once i knew that that tight angle was going to be an issue i was careful with the switch.

Yea I regret not looking into why it happened.

Very stupid design with the harsh angle but I guess I’ll have to replace it once again and maybe cable tie it somehow so it doesn’t snap. I think mine broke straight away, the litre black connector just cracked and tore out.

Really annoying

Craig,

I had the same issue and replaced it twice. Bought a trailtech headlight switch and hard wired it in. Functions the same with a two position switch. Lot of guys I know with this style map switch did this. Cut cut and splice in.

I have the same issue with my 450. What was the part number for the replacement? My local dealer told me I needed an entire wiring harness and I knew that wasn’t right.

Same thing happened on my 16.5 Fe...for such a beautifully engineered bike they failed here. I will be doing something like yours

This will probably sound stupid, but would someone mind explaining how to splice the two position switch into the existing wiring harness? I took an old vortex two position switch I had laying around and tried to replace my switch with it, but when I went to engage the launch mode I didn't get the blinking light. Just wondering if I missed something in the wiring process, since I'm not real familiar with stuff like this.

Mine broke also so I bought a new one and turned it around and ziptied the wire down now it's almost impossible for it to break again

Only sissy men use launch control. Haha. I honestly have never used it but just went out to check it and mine seems to be working fine. Maybe your switch is bad or the vortex is an interrupter style switch. Trail tech was only like 12-15 if I recall.

Do you have a part number for the OEM replacement?

Haha, I knew someone would say something along those lines.

It's actually pretty sweet if you've never used it. Turn launch mode on, hold it wide open, the ecu holds the rpm just low enough to not loop out in the first 3 feet, then full power. If you think it's just for little girly men, take a look at some of the factory supported bikes with the orange square on the front fender. It's a GET ignition launch control so they rev the bike to the ideal rpm on the line. Pretty neat that a bike comes stock with a similar feature, in my opinion.

The 250 doesn't have enough power to need a launch control. While training last year my son had tried using and not using it and it takes away too much power and you'd never get the holeshot if u use it

Please correct me if I’m wrong but the soldering points from left to right would be white(+), Black(-), white (+).

Thanks a lot!

So nothing connected to the first tab, white to the middle tab and the black wire to the last tab?

Thanks!
