Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on Amsoil Dominator as a premix. Currently using maxima castor927 but looking at switching as I have always used amsoil in the past in my cars & trucks.
Also what tranny oil is best for a 2 stroke? This is for a CR500

I've never been a fan of amsoil. Had a local dealer give me a gallon for free to try and get me to use it and I had a couple mechanics tell me not to and that I'd lose a rod bearing. I figured most people were not as anal about their filters as me and that's why they had problems, so I gave it a try. Well 8.2hrs later rod bearing went out and the crank only had about 10hrs on it before I switched to amsoil and this was on a kx85. I feel one of the best premix oils u can use is Motul 800 but with all of that said some guys will swear by amsoil but for me I'll never use amsoil or klotz. For tranny oil I always liked Maxima

May I ask if he gave you Dominator or Interceptor? I have heard some negative things about the Interceptor oil but reviews ive read for the Dominator are all positive.

Ive looked into using it because I can get a good deal on it and its my understanding that the Interceptor is good for casual riding 250cc and up but not something that's going to held wide like a 125 or fast 250 rider. The dominator on the other hand is a very high performance oil that is made to protect very high rpm racing engines. The only thing ive read about the dominator is that because its a racing only application it doesn't have all of the rust inhibitors in it like other oils so if you leave a bike sit in an un-controlled climate for a few months you could get some rust on the bearings and internal components. Again, I havnt tried it (yet) but after lots of research that seems to be the general consensus.

I use Amsoil Dominator synthetic in my 125. Never had a problem. My dad uses it in all his two strokes and they've worked great. Ran it in a SX 85 out in cali, put easily over 75 hours on the bike from brand new, and it's still running strong. I wouldn't recommend it for a break in oil on a new top end or bike, way to slippery. Run a good mineral oil to break the bike (or top end) in, then switch to the synthetic. But I don't have the money to do a top end every 10-15 hours on my bike, and I still run it hard, not a problem whatsoever. Maybe have 30 or more hours on it now and its still got tons of power. I hear Castor 927 is the best though. I have yet to try it, but I'd love to get some and see how it runs.

927 is basically the best 2 stroke oil. Dont know why you would switch

TMR recommends Amsoil dominator aft break in with mineral based oil, I have been using this method on all my 2 strokes for some time now, no oil related issues. I used to run Maxima 927 but found it is not the best for powervalve equipped engines due to carbon buildup. Op has Cr 500, non powervalve engine would be ok with 927. I have seen 927 separate from gas in lower temps....I really think 927 is best for old air cooled engines, oils have improved a lot since 927 was introduced. ....

If you are using Dominator and plan on storing your bike, watch out. It has no rust prevention (as it states on the bottle). It may not be a problem for you warm weather bros, but I had a jet ski engine rust badly after sitting for a few months.

Tomac and/or Anderson for 2020.....

Thanks for the responses & opinions. Reason I'm looking at switching to amsoil is simply due to the fact I can get a good deal on it. How is amsoils transmission oil?

Back in the day I ran mu CR 125 for half a season on Chevron Outboard 2 cycle oil @ 50:1...

Your Amsoil will be fine.

I just use ATF Type F in my trannie. I wouldn't mind seeing how this stuff plays out:

But the type F is so cheap, and my clutch actually pulls a lot smoother then when I was using the Bel-Ray stuff.
You obviously can find the Amsoil trannie fluid cheaper, that was just the retail price I pulled up.
