Hello all, been slowly working on my 2003 Cr 125 that I bought from my buddy. All new plastics, seat cover, jetting from pro circuit specs, carb clean and needle adjusted, new air filter, new crank seals, a work in progress.
I've got it to the point where it fires right up and runs and idles, but there is an excessive amount of smoke. A little more than normal, enough to be concerning. Also, while running, the top end sounds like a "knock" in the top end, i've read these are noisy motors but it doesn't sound too right. I did a compression test which read about 125 psi. Is it time for a new piston and rings? Also what could the knocking be from? Thanks!

Bad fit of the piston to cylinder will cause noise.

Was the bottom inside of the piston dome black on old piston?
