Thinking of going the Honda route with my front brake setup on my 2008 yz125. I've already got a galifer S/S braided line and braking 270mm wave rotor for the Yamaha nissin calliper and master cyl. Is the swap worth doing? Do I need both the master cyl and calliper for this mod to be worth it? Will the galifer brake line for a Yamaha brake system fit the Honda system even though they're both nissin?

Hey mate I've got a core braided line for my yz, stock yz calliper with 270mm oversize, and upgraded to the crf master cylinder. I think anything from 09 crf will work. I personally used a 2014 crf250 master as I stil had an arc lever from my old bike laying around so I made sure the new master would work with that lever. Everything bolts up sweet. Yet to bleed the brakes up as I'm waiting on a new rotor.

Hi thereal87, thanks for the reply. I was enquiring in my build thread but I thought I should post in here for a faster reply. I have found a '09 master cyl, and I also have a arc lever, will the lever fit to the '09 master cyl?

Along with the '09 calliper, does anyone know if it will bolt up and line up with my braking 270mm rotor?

Not sure if the Honda caliper will work mate. The upgrade is in the master cylinder so no need for the caliper. And by the sounds of the trouble your having with your arc lever it may not be the the correct one for the yz? If you decide to use a crf master you will require a Honda lever wether it be arc or genuine or asv ect

Well I ordered the correct lever from bto but the package didn't have a label, so it could be wrong.
I had researched the honda brake swap and saw that a lot of people were swapping the master cyl and caliper on their YZ250's and this, along with the Honda brake line, was what gave the "single finger" progressive feel (thumpertalk forum). I just wasn't too sure on what years swapped over and what years didn't work
I also read the '08 Yamaha (my model) couldn't take a Honda caliper, so I was just wondering if anyone could fill me in.

I run a Honda MC on pretty much every bike we have. Caliper doesn't make as big a difference. Buying a new KX250F this week so shopping for another 2007+ Honda MC for it........

I recently put a Brembo master from a 15 KTM on my YZ along with the stock caliper and a 270mm rotor. Best front brake combo ive ever ridden with. I had trouble finding a Honda front master as the 07 look the same but are in fact different. Brembo was easier to find on ebay and cheaper. Brake line mounts right up. You will need a Brembo banjo bolt though.

I run the Honda 450 caliper and master on my 2013 YZ250 with a stainless line and 270 Galfer rotor with stock Honda pads. It’s a pretty excellent setup compared to stock.

I was under the impression that the smaller style calipers on newer Yamahas wasn’t compatible with the Honda master due to the piston ratios being incorrect, so that’s why I put the caliper on. Just the difference in brake pad size between stock Yamaha and Honda calipers was pretty drastic.

I need to get a Honda master for my 2016 KX450F as well.

I don't know for sure about the calipers, but I do know that the Yamaha-style brake line was made even worse because it was a rubber line. Combine the inherent expansion with the extra length and you get some noticeable sponginess.
I'm not sure if you meant in your original post that you have a Yamaha-style SS line or if it is a shorty, but either way you'll be better off because it's braided steel. The expansion should not be much of a factor that way, even if you go the under-the-fork route.

Braaapin' aint easy.

On my 15 I just bolted the Honda master cylinder and brake line onto my YZ caliper, it worked no problem. I have it paired with a non-floating over sized rotor and it works really well, power if I want it but easily controllable. I'm not a fan of super touchy brakes right from the get go, I like to have some control as well and the solid rotor helped with that.

Plus you can do sick nose wheelies bro (and go over the bars in front of like 50 peoplewhistling )

What's your impression of the core brake lines?? Im looking to do the exact upgrade to my RM250 during the off season and want to change both front and rear brake lines. The pricing seems very reasonable too.......Thanks
