Can someone who knows post facts and changes on the evolution of the KYB SSS forks on the YZ's from 2006 to present?

I know that in 07/08 they went to a smaller/lighter lug, that uses the short axle and lighter updated brake caliper, but are there any other performance advantages or disadvantages between these early and late model KYB SSS forks?

Doing my homework for a fork swap on older YZ. Have found some EARLY style KYB SSS off a 2006 YZ250F but wondering if I should be going after the later model versions like 08-14 two stroke SSS.

Thanks!

Internals can differ between models. I heard the 250f suspension is 5mm shorter internally than 250 2t. I used the same suspension you did from an 06 and I don’t notice any difference between my stock suspension and the 06 suspension aside from fork caps.

Not really any disadvantages unless you want the updated fork guards.

Does anyone also know the overall length differences between the two stroke models and 4-strokes throughout the years?

09 on they changed to smaller diameter upper tubes, specifically the area for the top clamp, also changed to leaf style mid that year from memory. Only other changes are valving (inc ICS spring) and lengths

None of the YZ lines had the leaf style until the '18 450. The KX had it the last couple years before the switch to PSF

Only the 450 in 09 right? They went to 54mm.

05-14 YZ 2 strokes & 05-2011 YZ250F are 59mm lower and 56mm upper I had thought. Maybe someone can confirm?

In 10, the yz450 forks are 5mm longer than the 06 yz250.

Certain years also may require some shimming of the ics springs. But, all is accessible, which makes them a great platform to work from.
