My buddy has the infamous 2003 RM250 that is notoriously difficult to jet. The reason why, supposedly, is that Suzuki used a 6.5 slide in the bike's PWK carb that year (which, according to MXA, was the wrong one?)
From what I gather after reading many posts and write ups about the issue, the ultimate fix is to replace the slide with a #7 and go a little leaner on both Main and Pilot jets (and either adjust the needle clip, or go with a new needle that's one or two sizes leaner). Bike will be ridden around 500ft-1000ft elevation and running 40:1 50/50 mix
I see the #7 slide available from JD, Sudco, etc for around $70... but would another option be to just use the slide from a bike that came with a #7 slide, such as the 2004+ RM250, or a YZ250? I feel like the answer to my question is an obvious one, but still would appreciate any feedback from folks who have been there done that

Can't imagine it's that big of a hassle to jet around that slide. What needle is it using?
All I know is what ever I did it runs great now.
Where in the rpm is he having the issue? I was having it right about 3/8 ish
