Guys,

I am looking for stack info from anyone who has revalved their mid valve compression using the 18' oem piston. I've already upgraded my 17' to the new 18' midvalve and base valve. I have an FX350 so I have the oem bevel washer and check shim. I am assuming a 0.3mm float. Any base stack settings for trails/scrambles 205# int/ex would be much appreciated. Thanx.

What are you looking to accomplish?

There are lots of settings out there for the stock 2018 bikes

Find a good base setting for the compression on the midvalve for hare scrambles. OEM setup is the bevel washer and check shim. Can't tune that setup. Been doing my own work for years on Showa and KYB but looking for experienced advice on the WP AER. Thanx.

I think this next one is 2018 spec. There should be 250f setup out there and it might be a better place to start. The aer mid apparently is hard on shims so you need a good design for consistency down the road.

Crashing the party but I have a related question. It looks like I can buy this 2018 piston rod for my 2017 250sx and the difference is that the 2017 version doesn't have #27 on this image (checkvalve shim).

Also, does this #8 (piston rod) come with everything shown on it, like the exploded parts to the left of it (including #10, #12, #14, #27)??

seth- you shouldnt need to buy the piston rod.

the 2018 piston kit provides the base and midvalve piston and the funky shim.

You might also consider the 2018 air piston and spring guide (#13 i think).

Thanks bud, I think what I really still need is #10 but I figured I could buy everything and have the newer setup (that comes with #10 already).

I hate shooting in the dark but I already did an internal seal kit and I still have no compression damping. Now I think it is the seal in #10 that sits on the rod. I can buy the whole shibang for $250 and if I give the crap to a suspension company and make them figure it out they'll probably charge me similar amount anyway and maybe just end up changing that 1 seal.

If you need the cartridge rod seal in the seal head, go with the mxtech unit. You don't need to buy the entire WP rod assembly. The stock WP stuff is also damaged easily. A complete seal head is $60. I had to replace mine on the air side. The seal didn't like the heat necessary to get the seal head off when I did the air-side update to the 18' parts.

is the seal head for the air side the same as the damper side?

Also, if the cartridge seal was the problem, wouldnt the loss of damping be on the rebound side? before the oil migrated to the outer chamber and compression damping is lost as well?

Maybe the internal seal may have a small difference considering it is the air-side, but they are pretty much the same. Both 12mm rods.

I believe you are correct on the loss on both the rebound and the compression.
