So i got to try a 2019 KTM a few weeks ago and i instantly loved the feel of the hydraulic clutch. I've been a longtime KTM guy before my swich to a Yamaha in 2018 and trying a KTM just reminded me of how good the hydraulic clutch is on those bikes and how much i like it.

This is my question. Is the Magura aftermarket hydraulic clutch a good solution for a YZF 450 2018? It would be nice to hear if someone has any experience of the Magura clutch! I really hope Yamaha has plans on putting a hydraulic clutch on their bikes in the future!

Had one on my cr250. Working like a charm for 5 hours and the brand new clutch was gone. Grooves in the new clutch basket ,plates and disk burned

It was not running free. So if you get one make sure it has free play othewise it will burn a hole in your pocket 1500 euro's gone. Ow i have tried to get this problem to magura and the only thing those fuckers say.. ow well you have the right one so it should working.

If it works then it's perfect! If not it will destroy everything.

Oh that is a bit worrying. Its not like i hate the cable clutch, i just like the hydraulic feel more (please Yamaha put a hydro clutch on your 2020 450).

I think that the hydro vs cable thing is a very subjective topic. I know people that hate the hydro feel and then there are people like me that prefer that to the cable feel.

I'm not a clutch abuser so having a cable is not a big deal, i would just prefer the hydro feel that i'm more used to!

I’ve got a Magura hydraulic clutch on my YZ250 and i absolutely love it compared to a cable clutch.
Although I do think that it’ll all come down to personal preference really, if you liked the Magura on the KTM then you’ll more than likely enjoy it on the 450 Smile

Had a magura on my rmz450. Worked great. No issues whatsoever. I do prefer the feel of the cable clutch, however. That's just personal preference.

Motofinne, did you ever go hydro? I’m on a 19 and coming off a 350sxf and I really miss the hydro feel. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t find the yz450f clutch feel to be anything special. Myself and my buddy, who’s KTM guy both cringed at first pull. I’m not an abuser, so it’s not a huge issue, but it’s something I’d consider doing if others feel it works well.

No i didn't end up buying one. I'm not gonna buy one before i find more people with experience with it on their YZ450F bikes.

I was hoping that the 2020 bike would come with a hydro clutch stock but it seems like that isn't happening...

I had the Magura set up on my 13 YZ450F, was one of the best things I ever did. Not quite as light as a Husky or a KTM but still better than the cable. Less maintenance too, don't have to keep oiling the cable. I never had an issue with it slipping or anything like the other guy on here said. Although I will say the slave cylinder mounts into the cable guide on the left side crankcase and it looked sort of prone to damage but I never broke it.
