Anyone know for sure if you can get the outer clutch basket out on these by just removing the clutch cover or if the larger side case has to come off like the previous generation CRF 450? I'm installing a new setup and want to know if I need to order the case gasket before getting into it.

Thanks.

Not trying to be a smartass or something, I have not worked on the 17 450.

But how are you able to hold down the clutch basket and torq the nut without taking off the inner clutch case?

I too have not worked on the 2017 unit, but in the past years you had to remove the complete left cover to remove the clutch basket.

My buddy just pulled a 17 apart to do the e-start install. He said the inner cover gasket is metal and/or coated and easily came off without damage and the gasket could be reused.

Just put the new 8 plate clutch in, it can be done without removing the side case incase anyone else is wondering in the future. 09-16 this was not possible.
