Picked up a Yz125 a couple weeks ago. Decided to take off the cylinder to see if the "4 hours on fresh rebuild" was true and it actually was. I was shocked. The piston still looks new. But anyway, the cylinder still has the cross hatching. If I throw a new ring on the piston, will I have to hone the cylinder just a little bit and be good, or just not hone it at all?

Just put a new ring in it & let it rip. Do you know what brand of piston it has in it so you know what to buy?

I think you only hone if the crosshatch is gone. In my experiences, if the cylinder is that worn ill just go ahead and get it replated instead of making the diameter bigger with a hone.

To answer your question, put the ring on and go mam.

Yes it has a wiseco. I'm a vertex user but the piston looks great still, so I'll just leave it in.

Don't hone it, just deglaze it and you are good to go!

I'm reading a bunch of different things on different forums about whether or not to deglaze. How would I know if I need to deglaze or not, or is it a necessity before putting it all back together?

If I have the money, why not?

Don't get me wrong, I see your point, but if I've got cash for a ring and a gasket kit, I might as well, just to make myself feel better about it. The cylinder is already off anyway.
