Jonathan Barragan Won The Motocross Internacional de Tenerife-Goldentyre Trophy for the Second Year

SAN MIGUEL DE ABONA (TENERIFE), 10th December 2006-The fourth Motocross Internacional Tenerife “GoldenTyre Trophy” was held today, with a sunny weather and a massive crowd of 7000 spectators.

The final winner was Spaniard Jonathan Barragan, who successfully defended the Title he grasped last year in Tenerife. After crashing in yesterday’s qualifying session and in today’s second MX1 moto, the KTM factory rider made it to the Superfinal and battled with Italian Alex Salvini and MX1 poleman Cedric Melotte for the final win.

Barragan lead from the start, then both Melotte and Salvini moved past him and challenged each other for first. Salvini finally overtook Melotte for first place, with Barragan holding on in third; with three laps to go, Melotte tried his overtaking manoeuvre on Salvini, but both leaders crashed and handed victory to Barragan.

Salvini restarted quickly and arrived to the chequered flag in second place, followed by countryman Davide Guarneri, the first 250cc machine of the Superfinal. Belgian Melotte finished the race in fourth place ahead of Brian Jorgensen, who decided to stop his career at the end of 2006.

Enduro Champion Ivan Cervantes was right behind the group of Motocrossers, and got sixth place in the Superfinal.

Before the Superfinal, the “GoldenTyre Trophy” offered the massive crowd four exciting heats, two in the MX1 class and two in the MX2 class, from which the best 15 riders of each class were taken for the 30 minute plus two lap Superfinal.

Alex Salvini won the MX1 class with a second place and a win; Melotte won the first heat but was second in the overall classification, in front of Brian Jorgensen, Aitor Santana and Jonathan Barragan. Ivan Cervantes was sixth. Bad luck prevented MX3 World Champion Yves Demaria from taking part to the event; the French rider injured his knee after November’s FIM Off Road Awards.

Italian Alex Salvini conquered the MX1 class

It was another Italian winning the MX2 class. Davide Guarneri got two back to back wins and topped the overall MX2 standings with 50 points. Jose Butron Oliva was second and Pol Panes completed the top three. Livia Lancelot, the only female racer in the “GoldenTyre Trophy”, clinched a satisfactory ninth place, while Luigi Seguy crashed in the first moto and injured his right shoulder. The Frenchman finished in fourth place, but doctors prevented him from racing the rest of the event.
