Jimmy Nelson did what everyone expected him to do at the fourth and final round of the MX2 West Championship in Morden, Manitoba. Under hot sunny skies, Nelson put his Team Honda Blackfoot Fox Racing CRF-250 in the winner's circle with a clean sweep, capping a perfect season of four overall wins with the MX2 West crown.

"It's still sinking in. I feel great winning this championship. I knew I had a good chance coming into the season but I never thought I would dominate the way I did," said Nelson. "Team Honda Blackfoot Fox really stepped up to the plate for me with a great team and awesome bikes. I'd like to thank everybody for all their hard work, which in the end made mine a little bit easier."

Although Nelson didn't have to finish the season on the podium to clinch the title, one 14th place finish would have sufficed, he settled for nothing less than another double moto win. In total, the Las Vegas resident won seven of eight motos on his way to the championship.

In the first moto at Shadow Valley Raceway, Gray Davenport grabbed the holeshot but two corners after the chicane Nelson took over and never looked back. In the second moto, Nelson, not to be denied, pegged the holeshot and led wire to wire. Richmond Racing Kawasaki's Teddy Maier, who had been Nelson's main rival throughout the series, put in a strong final round with 2-2 motos, giving him second overall for the day. He finished the series in runner-up position, 50 points behind Nelson. KTM's Michael Sleeter completed the podium, snaring third overall on the strength of 4-3 motos.

JSR grabs second win of the season

In a series that has come to be dominated by Dusty Klatt, defending MX1 Champion Jean Sebastien Roy sent a message that he is still a contender for the title. And he did it in a big way by taking to the podium in Morden with a clean sweep. It was JSR's second clean sweep win of the season, following the series opener in Ste. Julie, QC in late May.

For JSR's Honda Blackfoot Fox Racing teammate Klatt, the first moto in Morden ended no sooner than it had started. After getting an up-front start, Klatt was forced to pull off to the side of the track with carburettor problems before the end of the first lap. Roy, who also got a good start, capitalized by taking the lead all the way to the checkered. He was never threatened for position and finished by a substantial margin over third Blackfoot rider Blair Morgan. Morgan and Yamaha Canada's Simon Homans battled for second place, with Homans eventually settling for third.

In the second moto, Klatt was on the gas and in the lead within a few corners from the start. Although he managed to build up an eight second lead, a super motivated JSR wouldn't take satisfaction with second place, chipping a half second here and a second there until he was in Klatt's rear wheel. In a dramatic move Roy stuck a pass on a surprised Klatt towards the end of the moto, taking the win and the overall.

"It's unfortunate Dusty DNFd the first moto but by beating him in the second I don't think there was any doubt that I was running very strong today," said Roy.

For Blackfoot Racing the second moto proved extra sweet, thanks to a third place finish by Blair Morgan, who snared second overall for the day.Third man on the podium was Stoneridge KTM's Michael Willard, who hammered down third overall, thanks to 6-4 moto results.

"This was definitely a very satisfying day for me," said Morgan. "Not just getting second overall for the day, but moving into third place in the rankings."

Rounding out the top five were Team Suzuki OTSFF's Keith "KJ" Johnson, who recorded fourth overall on the strength of 5-5 motos and Royal Distributing KTM's Marco Dube, who took fifth overall on the strength of 4-8 motos. Meanwhile, Homans saw a potential third overall go down the drain after he DNFd the second moto.

Conspicuous by their absence at Shadow Valley Raceway were Team Suzuki's Gavin Gracyk, who reinjured his shoulder during practice and Richmond Racing Kawasaki's Darcy Lange, who was injured at Round 5.
