Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Closes the Gap on Canadian Championship

Riverside, CA (July 16, 2008) - The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki team gained valuable points at the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motcross Nationals this weekend in Nanaimo, B.C. Team riders Dusty Klatt and Jeff Gibson probably rode their best race of the season even though their overall results don't show it. Klatt finished fourth overall on the day but managed to close the championship lead to ten points. Gibson ended the day in sixth overall and moved up to eighth position in the championship standings.

Klatt led the first MX1 moto from start to finish and crossed the finish line almost fifteen seconds ahead of second place. Gibson had a great start to the moto as he found himself battling with the lead pack. However, as Klatt pulled away from the pack, Gibson made a few minor mistakes allowing some riders to get around and he finished in eighth place.

Both riders found themselves at the front of the pack at the start of moto two with Gibson just inside the top ten and Klatt in third. Klatt would quickly move into the lead and was looking for another runaway win. Unfortunately, Klatt's lead was short-lived when his front wheel washed out causing him to fall. During the fall, he injured his foot and this made restarting the motorcycle difficult. Once he got going again, Klatt was almost half a track behind the field but started his charge to the front in an effort gain as many championship points as possible. Incredibly, he charged all the way back to seventh at the checkered flag, just one position behind Gibson in sixth.

"We gained a lot of points on the championship this weekend," said team manager Derek Sorenson. "Unfortunately our results weren't that great but both Jeff and Dusty rode very well. Dusty did a great job of staying focused after his crash in the second moto and Jeff has put in some really good rides in the last two races. The whole team feels confident about the championship and we're looking forward to some great racing in the last four rounds."

The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki team will travel to Edmonton on July 20 for round six of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals.
