Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Walton Race Report‏

Shawn
Rife wins final round, Teddy Maier finishes second in Championship

Kamloops,

.(August 18, 2010)
The
2010 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals concluded this
past weekend with the final round as the Leading Edge team made their
way to Walton Raceway in Walton, Ontario. A celebration of Canadian
Motocross, the Walton Trans-Can is the series largest event and as
usual the Lee family did a great job of providing a terrific venue to
cap off what was an exciting series.

Coming into the final round, defending champion, Teddy Maier, was
trailing series points leader, Tyler Medaglia, by twenty points – a
tall order to make up but Maier was determined to give it everything
he had to try and close the gap. In the first moto, the two got out
front early and put on a great race with Medaglia leading and Maier
doing everything he could to get by him. The two pushed each other
for the full 30 minutes but Medaglia was able to hold Maier off to
take the win.

With
a 23 point lead, Medaglia only had to finish 19
th
or better to secure the title so in moto two he let his Championship
rival go and cruised home to a 5
th
place finish and the title. Maier raced hard to finish second in the
moto and second overall on the day. Said Maier after the race, “My
hat is off to Tyler Medaglia. I gave it everything I had all season
and today was no different. I would have loved to have held onto the
number one plate but I laid it all on the line and I have to be happy
with that. I can't say enough for my team though, the entire Monster
Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki team have been awesome and I know I had
the best bike on the track. I can't thank everyone enough for a great
season.”

Though the team might not have defended the MX2 championship, the day
could not have gone much better as after pulling out the weekend
before at Sand Del Lee with an injury, Shawn Rife bounced back to
take the overall win at Walton by winning the second moto ahead of
his teammate, Maier. Rife was happy to end things off with a bang, “
I've had a bit of an up and down season with the foot injury I
suffered early on but I'm glad I was able to go back out there this
weekend and prove that I have the speed to run with Maier and
Medaglia. I would have liked to have been in the hunt with them for
the title but I'm glad I could end things off with this final win.”

Spencer
Knowles, the team's third rider, didn't quite have the weekend he was
looking for. After pulling out last weekend due to a hand injury he
was feeling better and ready to get back in the mix for Walton but
unfortunately was taken out in a first turn crash in moto one and
couldn't continue. Despite his injuries he came back to start moto
two and gutted out a solid 10
th
in the moto.

With
the 2010 Canadian series wrapped up the team now looks to the annual
Montreal Supercross, taking place at Montreal, Quebec's Olympic
Stadium on October 2. For more information check out
