Pirelli Celebrates Double Titles at the Conclusion of the FIM Motocross World Championship for the Season Finale in Shanghai

Jeffrey Herlings Takes his Second Consecutive Victory in the MXGP Class and Jorge Prado takes his 16th Victory of the Season in MX2. Pirelli Claims both Titles for Another Year and Continues the Streak that Began in 2010

SHANGHAI, China (September 16, 2019) – The Grand Prix of China hosted the final round of the 2019 season and represented the first ever visit by the FIM Motocross World Championship to the immense and populous Asian country. At the spectacular Shanghai circuit, Pirelli riders were able to count on the fantastic performance of the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and SCORPION™ MX Soft rear tires. Thanks to these tires and mousses of various compounds, the Grand Prix stars were able to safely tackle the medium-soft terrain marked by the deep ruts and achieved overall victory and excellent results in both classes.   Jeffrey Herlings claimed his second consecutive victory in MXGP. The Dutchman finished second in race one and managed to win the second moto thanks to a fantastic comeback in the final laps. Jeremy Seewer – an excellent third in Shanghai and making his sixth podium appearance - closed the Championship in second place. Fourth overall, with the same points as the Swiss rider Seewer, was the new world champion Tim Gajser who suffered due to an off-track excursion in the second race. Jeremy Van Horebeek brought his private Honda to an impressive fifth place overall.

Jorge Prado ended his MX2 class career with a 16th Grand Prix win in China. The Spaniard dominated both races and after a second consecutive world title in the smaller cylinder class he will move to MXGP in 2020. Tom Vialle took second position but, by just six points, he failed to grab the third step of the podium in the Championship standings. Third place belonged to Calvin Vlaanderen who was fast and consistent throughout the weekend. There was a good performance by Thomas Kjer Olsen who finished fifth and confirmed his runner-up finish in the championship standings.

In two weeks time the impressive temporary layout built inside the historic Assen racetrack in the Netherlands will host the 73rd edition of the Motocross of Nations. The team event will conclude the 2019 motocross season.
