Preview of the MX3 Overseas Event in Chile

FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 11 May 2009 – In 12 days Santiago de Chile will breathe with Motocross. Last season it was the maiden year of the FIM MX3 World Championship in South America. It was more than a successful event and this year everybody looks forward to returning in the Chilean capital city Santiago, which has more than five million residents.

Main partners for the organization of the event are the Chilean Motorcycle Federation (Federation de Motociclismo de Chile) and H2O Producciones. Both partners have reach experiences in organizing big events, such as Six Days of Enduro, Supercross and Freestyle series. Mr. Miguel Olmedo, the responsible and head of the organization unveiled some details for the 23rd and 24th of May, when all the best MX3 riders will compete in South America.

SHOW FOR SPECTATORS

Spectators will enjoy a world’s first class freestyle demo presentation, with the 2007 X-games best trick gold medalist Chuck Carothers and the local rider Javier Villegas. Both stars will perform during a twenty minute show on Sunday, between both races. There will also be a parachute exhibition and other interesting side shows, like bicycle dirt jumps. After last year’s successful event the fans’ response was great, so everybody in Chile is waiting for Sunday 24th.

The organizer expect more than 20.000 spectators

ABOUT THE EVENT

Mr. Miguel Olmedo said: »The preparation of the event has not been easy. The financial crisis had made things more difficult and affected the sponsors support for the event. However, the event will be a great experience and unforgettable for the fans. On Sunday we expect about 20 thousand spectators, same as last year. We are working on the communication strategy and hopefully we can overtake that number. Fans are excited and they are waiting to see all the best World Championship riders again. They hope that our Latino-American riders can do better results than last year. They all were working hard for that and I think some riders can be a surprise for everyone.”

In December’s FIM Off Road Awards at the Salle des Etoiles (Monaco, Monte-Carlo) the Chilean organizer received the award for the best MX3 organizer of the year 2008. Mr. Olmedo explained: “Getting the chance to organize the MX3 World Championship event in Chile was a price itself. The award for the best MX3 organizer was even better and very satisfactory for us, it was our reward for all the hard work over a long period of time and after lot of races. All the people who were involved in the organization, deserved it. At the beginning we did not know what to expect. We put all our effort to make this event so that riders, FIM and Youthstream representatives would be willing to repeat the experience and come back to Chile every year. We were very pleased to receive all the Youthstream and FIM working crew, they also deserve big part of the credit, they helped us a lot and worked very hard with us to make the event so successful.

ABOUT THE RACE TRACK

The race track Laguna Caren will be exactly the same as it was last year but it will be dryer than in the last season. The pond water level is much lower than last year, so even in case of rain, there will not be so much water. Furthermore, some spots of the track will be elevated by hundreds of dirt truck loads of the same sandy dirt which the track is made of. This will ensure a perfect grip in all conditions.
