Mike Alessi (MotoConcepts) grabbed the first moto holeshot. Phil Nicoletti (715) had made the jump to the 450 class, and was second on the first lap, but slid back through the pack as the moto went on.
Mike led Ryan Dungey (Red Bull/KTM) for the first six laps before dropping to second, which is where he finished.
Tyla Rattray (Monster Energy Kawasaki) struggled in the first moto, but had an awesome second moto. More on that in a bit.
Tommy Hahn scored a third on moto one with a solid ride.
Robby Marshall gave the locals plenty to cheer about when he scored a fourth in moto one.
John Dowd and Southwick go together and like peanut butter and jelly. His 10-16 day, along with his previous national results from the season, gave the 47-year-old enough points to hang onto National number 16 for another year.
250 moto one start. Zach Bell (GEICO Honda) holeshot his first pro moto, and led for the first five laps.
Marvin Musquin (Red Bull/KTM) had his best result so far, finishing second in moto one.
Zach Bell was having a bit of a wardrobe malfunction. He asked for size 30 pants, but at 135 pounds is actually more of a 28.
Blake Baggett (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) started fifth, and was third by the end of moto one.
Eli Tomac (GEICO Honda) moved into the lead on lap six, and easily took moto one.
Ashley Fiolek (Team Honda Muscle Milk) nabbed the holeshot in the first moto of the WMX action.
Mariana Balbi (MotoConcepts) had a great start, but spun out in the first turn. She quickly remounted and charged through much of the pack.
Sade Allender dicing with Tarah Gieger.
Jessica Patterson (Rockstar Energy Suzuki) still has the points lead, and finished with a 2-2 day.
Ashley Fiolek checks her lead en route to the first moto win.
Sarah Whitmore had a pair of eighth place finishes for the day.
Mike Alessi made it 2-2 in holeshots to start moto two. He ended up third for the moto.
Ryan Dungey took over the lead early on, and looked like he was on cruise control...until...
Dungey went down and knocked his gas cap loose. Mike Alessi got by to retake the lead. The big issue for Dungey was how much fuel he'd lost. He stopped in the pits to get a quick refill...something that saved his day. He wouldn't have finished, otherwise.
John Dowd had a crash or two in moto two, but still ended up 16th.
Mike Alessi led for a bit, but Tyla Rattray was making a charge behind him.
Michael Byrne (Team BTOSports.com) nailed down fifth in moto two.
Josh Grant (Jeff Ward Racing/DNA Energy) was eighth in each moto.
John Dowd was wiped out at the end of the day, enlisting the help of Kenny Germain to take off his helmet. Still, pretty kick-ass for a 47-year-old.
Broc Tickle was the fast qualifier during the morning practices, and he translated that to a 6-4 day, and third overall.
Ryan Dungey finished second in moto two, and salvaged the overall with his splash 'n go. We hear that he had just about nothing left in the fuel tank when he finished. That's a championship moment.
Mike Alessi was second overall with his 2-3 score.
Check out the Eleven 10 Mods / RideMPS.com / Renegade Fuels duo of Alex Martin and Mike McDade up front at the start of moto two.
Ken Roczen (Red Bull/KTM) took over the lead, and built a solid lead.
Eli Tomac started fourth, and was charging toward the front.
Blake Baggett was fifth at the start, and on the move toward the front.
Justin Barcia (GEICO Honda) had a tough moto, tagging a tree in Buckley's Berm and going down. He had to charge through the pack all day long.
Blake Baggett took a couple shots at taking over the lead from Ken Roczen before finally making his way by. That gave him the overall for the day.
Ashley Fiolek is about as predictable as Mike Alessi when it comes to starts.
Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson battled early, but Fiolek pulled away.
There are only ten points between the top three in the class. Patterson's out front, and there are five points between her, Tarah Gieger, and Ashley Fiolek.
Mariana Balbi was third in moto two
