Work hours?

I don't work anymore. I'm retired. I get paid pretty damn well for doing whatever I want. I wish the same for each of you.

The wife and I both work 40 hours minimum. She is on a salary base plus commissions. And I’m on hourly rate. We bothe can get by just fine on 40 a week. That being said I spent all year up until about 2 weeks ago working 50-65 hours a week with overtime. We both have been very fortunate to have good careers at a young age.

I work three 12s and four 12s. My wife works 4 10s and takes call. Only lives 5 miles from her job. I commute 35 miles. We are both nurses, and I also am a reservist in the US Army. But my wife is involved with the army as well. she does a thing called family readiness group.

I like army it’s alot more than 1 weekend a month two weeks a year. but it’s a tight nit family like atmosphere to what you have in motocross.

I just took a Job at the VA. And not sure why the media still bastardizes it but the huge private hospital Systems that are treated like gods gift to earth are really no better than the VA. It's fulfilling for me to go to work and take care of my brothers. I pretty much hated my job title until commissioned and moved into the VA.

My wife and I are Young. (30) have great incomes and a retirement portfolio that most don't have until they're into their Mid forties. Our Mortgage has 11 more years to go. And we will be free lol. HealthCare has allowed us to do this. But like anything else I read from you guys on here..... It isn't easy. With success comes great sacrifice.

I work a 14 on/14 off schedule and usually 14hr work days when on. So 98hrs a week at work. Not counting if I need to stay over or we have issues. This is the easiest schedule I've ever worked in 18yrs of being in the oil business. I wouldn't know what in the hell to do if I got to sleep in my own bed everyday. My wife would want to kick me out! I work 5hrs from where I live so I have a camper there to stay in when at work. It's not the life for everyone, but I love it.

I owned my own business for 24 years, six days a week 10 -12 hours a day. Sold it, got out good, got out of debt, and lowered my stress level 95%. Now I average about 25 hours a week, no weekends, very flexible schedule, and no one looking over my shoulder (home inspector). I missed a lot of family time, but my wife and I did a good job with the now grown kids. We can travel and do things we have always wanted to do, but the age thing keeps us watching, instead of doing, some activities. I am a weekend practice rider now, but that's OK, I love it.

Young folks, if you haven't planned for retirement, DO IT NOW! Get out of debt and save some $ you will need it.

Does the 40-45hr work week exist anymore? Seems like if you want to make any bucks its dam near impossible to have a life and be home thru the week. Curious how many people work less than 45hrs a week or if it's just my imagination.
Nice wakeboard boat.

When I worked in concrete construction we used to get 70-80 hour weeks. It was tough. The longest was 72 hours straight, polishing concrete . Sleep 2 hours go polish for 4 hours, repeat.
Now I work from home or where ever is internet access. 9-5

19 years with a large, global company while in a salary compensation plan. The workload increase from headcount reductions has seen the avg weekly hours increase from 40-45 hrs to 60-70 hrs. Everyone I know also has to report vacation days they never take to be in compliance with HR policies. I’m not complaining because after automation processes are fully deployed there won’t be many employees left to worry over how many hours they’re working.

Sounds like me and my wife at 24 years old. It’ll pay off quick. Keep at it.

Don’t finance the wedding. We were engaged for over two years. Paid for the wedding in cash. Both put away $250 a paycheck from the time we got engaged and ended up getting $15,000 in cards and the wedding -‘d honeymoon cost us $12,380. Sonwe made money on the wedding. Do it smart. Don’t fall into the $50,000 wedding trap.

I work three 12s per week. Usually ends up being around 37hrs when you factor coming in a little early each day. I'm an RN. I can pretty much pick my schedule. I do work occasional night and weekend rotations, which sucks, but it's worth it for the 4 days off I get every week. People who work 5-6 days per week, I honestly have no idea how they get anything done or have any time to pursue their hobbies.

Before I went back to school to do this, I worked in finance. 50+ hour weeks, 8-5 M-F with mandatory OT all the time. I will never go back to that life. Money was great, but beyond a certain point your mental health and well being aren't worth the extra cash no matter how much they throw at you.

There are things about the medical field that suck, just like every other career. But when it comes to schedule, benefits, work/life balance, job security...it's pretty hard to beat.
I'm an RN as well. I worked 36 at my main job his past week day shift....but i also worked 36 at my prn job on nights. That was my work week....and about typical for me

A lot of employers schedule less than 40 hours a week to avoid paying benefits. Then for those they do pay benefits for, they were want their money's worth. So it's almost always 50+. I miss working 40. I think 40 is great.

My current job allows me to work 40 when I become proficient at it.

Yeah, been busting hump working a ton and having to travel a lot. Been real hard to balance work and family this year. Been to Singapore twice and spent most of the year in Charleston. Heading back down again Monday....

Used to be a medic in the Army, at a field unit in support of dismounted infantry so that meant I was rucking my gear everywhere as well. It was either freezing cold and dealing with frostbite/hypothermia caualties or it was hot being eaten alive my mosquitoes in the bush... However, my Afghan tour was all of the adventure (and more) that I was looking for. I worked way more than 40 hour work weeks, get up before most of the troops to check on guys before we got moving for the day, and when we finally made camp again as they were all bunking out I was going around checking again.
Money was decent (we're one of the best paid militaries in the world) and we get pretty good benefits.

I smartened up a bit, now in the Air Force, regular 40 hour work weeks for the most part, I am in a trade where I make specialist pay, I get to play with cool equipment and they trained me to be a fabricator. Machining, welding, metal work, composites, painting, graphics, textile work (sewing is a surprisingly great skill to have). I haven't had to look at another man's anus in a while, and haven't held anyone's dick but mine in a long time, so I'm happy!
It's still a bit tight owning a home on my own, but I can afford my truck (almost paid for now) and bringing home a brand new bike in 2 weeks, so I have no complaints.

Self employed here. Usually 50-60 hours a week April through mid November. December to march about 5-10 hours a week. Wife stays home with our 4 kids. I love my job and very fortunate to have the schedule I do.

Wow, don't know how you guys make it working 30-35 hours a week. That would be nice. I consider myself lucky working about 9.5 hours 5 days a week. I'm salary so sometimes sneak out early to get a ride in, but also sometimes need to come in on a Saturday or stay late to get things done. My wife is a teacher and she also puts in a ton of hours, I know many think teachers have it made but she often puts in more hours than me. Rambling, but would really like to work one of those 4 day, 10 hour shift jobs...3 day weekends would be nice.

I boss a few people around one day a month. Scream at golfballs the rest of the time. Just turned 44. I knew i wanted to own rental properties at a young age because I knew i wasn't going to be able to do the 40 hour week making others wealthy while i scraped. My parents worked 40 plus a week and never had a penny. We were poorest of poorest. I started at the very bottom but my grandkids should be good now. Lots of options and opportunities out there . Invest, invest.

I'm on the rental property plan, myself. Though I'm a decade or so behind you (I got a late-later-start than you...I'm 37 and just buying my first property.)

I really enjoy my job, so I don't mind working...my plan should have 12 rentals paid off by the time I'm ready to retire at 55. I'll be putting 30% down on them...and then let the tenants pay off the mortgages over the next 10-20 years. The cashflow on those should replace my income by the time I'm 55.

I had just turned 40 when we purchased our first rentals back in 2005, a group of five small townhouses. Ended up with 26 over the next ten years plus a new beach house/rental and a couple stakes in some family property. Prices have been up the past couple years so no new purchases except for a couple acres of light industrial property I want to build something on. Refi'd over the years and lumped a bunch of them together to simplify things and accelerate payoff. Soooo close to having everything paid for....

Wish I would have done it sooner.

I work from home. Get up around 8, sign in around 8:30, surf the net most of the day along with getting laundry and other stuff done around the house, sign back out about 5, repeat M-F, pick up check. Pretty sweet deal. Smile

Paid for 40 hours on salary. Typically work about 45 in a week. A bit of traveling as well (trade shows, events, ect) do not get overtime for anything past 40 hours or weekends while traveling.
