Welcome to the first round of the 2024 MXGP season!

The pit areas in Argentina look a little different to most GPs. Juan Pablo

Cool to see what each team brings with them. Juan Pablo

Laptops have just become a regular item around the pro pits these days. Juan Pablo

Jeremy Seewer starts his first season with the Factory Kawasaki MXGP team and is on KYB, as the second rider on this team has been for a few years now. Juan Pablo
Place holder
Romain Febvre remains on Showa. This is also his second season on this platform but the first on the production chassis. Last year he rode a prototype version of the frame with noticeable sections CNC-machined. Juan Pablo

While the production KX450 uses a very small air filter element, the Factory MXGP team and US Factory team use this much larger filter element and a different airbox to support it. We want please, the stock unit is a bit restrictive. Octopi Media

We noticed Seewer's headpipe was a bit different to Febvre's.

Febvre's PC has a shorter but larger diameter head pipe.

The Kawasaki MXGP team is the only factory-level team that lets MXGP riders do their own gear deals now. While Febvre chose to stick with the same gear sponsors as the team had last year, Jeremy Seewer got creative and continued his relationship with Shoei helmets, carriers Monster as a personal sponsor, is running a Fox goggle with a custom strap, and working with Renen for custom gear. Juan Pablo

Speaking of keeping Monster as a personal sponsor, Glenn Coldenhoff stays with Monster as his Wilvo team moves from being the Factory Yamaha MXGP effort to Fantic racing's first big effort into MXGP. Juan Pablo

As mentioned above, the Wilvo operation who has been operating as Yamaha's factory MXGP effort since Rinaldi stepped back has swapped for 2024. After being cut by Yamaha, the operation ended up on a bike they have a lot of experience with... A Yamaha with different plastics! A Fantic. Juan Pablo
Place holder
The bike features many of the same parts the team ran as the factory Yamaha effort last year, but they also gained some freedoms. Juan Pablo

The team is still using Hinson and Akrapovic components. Juan Pablo
Place holder
It's interesting to see the Fantic using a Nissin hydraulic clutch instead of the Brembo unit that Yamaha uses. Juan Pablo

Place holder
The team no longer has works KYB components and is instead of kit level parts through Technical Touch. Juan Pablo

AFAM is pushing back into the sport on both sides of the pond. Juan Pablo
Place holder
Yamaha's prior MX2 team, Kemea, has taken over the MXGP effort. Juan Pablo
Place holder
Kemea re-inherited Maxime Renaux and kept Jago Geerts as he also moves from MX2 to MXGP. Juan Pablo
Place holder
However, Geerts was injured at the first round. Juan Pablo
Place holder
Hutten Metaal Racing, who ran Yamaha's EMX250 program, has no moved to MX2 to take over Kemea's vacant seat. Juan Pablo
Place holder
MXGP and MX2 team gear deals are a bit odd. Hutten Metaal inherited Kemea's TLD gear deal for the MX2 team, while Kemea inherited the Alpinestars gear deal that Wilvo had for the MXGP class Yamaha effort. Juan Pablo
Place holder
Andrea Adamo chose not to use the number 1 in 2024 but it's ghosted in his 80. Juan Pablo

Herlings' newest Oakley signature goggle. Juan Pablo

It was refreshing to see Herlings in some non-regular KTM colors for his gear. Juan Pablo

Both the Coenens struggled to stay off the ground in Argentina. Juan Pablo
Lucas Coenen held the red plate after Saturday's qualifying race but threw it away come Sunday's first moto.

Speaking of red plates... Juan Pablo
Place holder
Jorge Prado started Saturday off the with the red plate as the defending champion, but didn't win the qualifying race... Juan Pablo
Place holder
So he was demoted to the white plate for Sunday's racing action but then left the weekend with the red plate again after both motos. Changing plates mid-weekend is just ridiculous on MXGP's part. Why? Juan Pablo

the F&H team is still on Kawasaki KX250s but has dropped all the green and any Kawasaki branding, fueling rumors they will be on a different OEM's machines come 2025. Juan Pablo

Wonder what's next... Juan Pablo

The Standing Construct team has made some big progress this off-season, and their results showed it. Interesting to see a Factory Connection linkage onboard. Juan Pablo

Pauls Jonass showed the prior form that made him a MX2 World Champion. Juan Pablo

Ben Watson is back for another season aboard the Beta! Juan Pablo

FXR is the gear sponsor for the Beta MXGP team in 2024. Juan Pablo

We'll get a better look at the 2025 CRF450RWEs at the next rounds. Juan Pablo

All three riders aboard Nestaan Husqvarna have Red Bull lids but it's because all three riders are Red Bull athletes, but the team itself isn't under that umbrella. Juan Pablo

Mikkel Haruup put the Triumph MX2 team on the podium in the opening round, congrats! Juan Pablo

Haruup had a big one during the weekend, check out the sequence. Juan Pablo
