Did Decoster really ask Webb the question?

If he's willing to do what it took to win the championship again? After two or three rounds in? After Webb was fighting illness the first few rounds? Either the question is being hyped for the broadcast (likely) or it seems Decoster was just spurring Webb on to get good results.

Webb looked much better in the whoops this last weekend albeit he was jumping the first set. But he wasn't losing any time there.

Out of all the riders in the field, I imagine the Tomacs, Roczens and even AC hate to be anywhere near Webb towards the end of the race. They know he's going to go for it and he has a good track record there.

especially the "are you wasting my time" thing. Not sure but Shaheen has been repeating that every race since he's back broadcasting.

If Decoster asked me that after I was sick I would be more pissed at him, than pissed to win. He (Webb) should already have the desire to win.

Unless there is more to that story, or stuff we haven't heard or seen, I don't know why Roger would ask him that 3 rounds in, considering he came in sick.

Decoster: ”son, are you really going to send me off to my retirement a loser?.....after everything I did for you?”

I don’t know any of these guys personally, but I’ve seen some of the videos following Ryan Dungey and Roger through the years. Roger seemed to figure out Ryan’s weaknesses and press them in a mentoring way. When Ryan had emotional responses or felt uncomfortable on the bike it seems like Decoster would tell him to suck it up and adapt (though not in that exact phrasing).

There are countless reasons he could’ve said that to cooper. Coopers been known to throw fits and have pretty emotional responses after races etc. If this were said and the phrasing is accurate, it could be because Roger is pressing Webb’s buttons because he knows it’ll help, or there could be an entire picture behind the scenes that none of us will ever know.

I get so tired of Ralph making stuff up. Hardly think RD would say "Or are you wasting my time". BTW got a good laugh when he said, "I smoked the GOAT in Vegas".

It is probable that none of us will ever know unless somebody were to ask Webb or Roger directly. It seems to me though that if the Whoops are one of Webbs weaknesses well they sure were not in San Diego. I am pretty sure he was faster through them than most of the field. Maybe Roger just knows how to get the most out of a man?

Roger DeCoster is paid by KTM to win championships. Cooper Webb was hired by KTM, probably after Roger's suggestion, to do the same. Period. There are no "sick days" in professional racing...lots of riders ride when they're not feeling well, and they still give it all they have because of the reasons I just posted.

If saying that to Cooper Webb was something Roger knew would kick him in the ass and get him to push past whatever was wrong...he has 100% right to say it, even if it pissed Cooper off. I'm quite sure he said some things to Ryan Dungey that didn't set well with Ryan...because Roger knew how to motivate him.

Every rider has a different psychology, exactly like every employees. Some needs more confidence, some a bit of anger, some a bit of push, so needs to relax a bit more, etc. If DeCoster asked that, i am sure he knew exactly that it would work better ... and it did !

If you have followed Decoster over the years, he is a no BS type of guy, who doesn't sugar coat anything. I have no doubt in my mind that he said, and says those type of things to his guys. I`m sure it is more to motivate than anything, but don`t doubt his process, he is a champion builder for sure.

From a distance it appears Roger requires his crew, mechanics, truck driver, pit tootsie, riders, everyone involved in the KTM process to give just as much as Roger does. 100%.

What about a media guy asking Cooper the very question! How about that???

The guy did great at A1 considering being sick so it seems there must be something more to this.

Right there is why Ralph should be replaced.

Webb IS their only rider currently and their only chance at a repeat championship. I understand the comment. Just find it bizarre that he would have asked that specific question after 3 rounds. What if Webb told RD "yeah I'm just goofin around here"? Would Decoster pull the plug on the season?

St. Louis was the weekend he was sick and his "bad night". 9 points out of the lead currently and Roczen and Tomac haven't had a "bad night" yet.

Maybe what he was saying was: Being sick is no excuse.

There are relatively few situations where people perform worse in any appreciable way, while sick. Just more psycho-babble from The Snowflake Generation.

Maybe he did. Who cares? I think RD says what needs to be said at the right time. KTM thinks so to. And whatever RD says has worked, especially for Webb last year.

Trust the process.....

Maybe "The Man" wanted to see if he could light a fire under Coops ass. These guys aren't here to play.

I wondered the same thing. I think Ralph pulls shit out of his ass a lot of times just to build drama. It may very well have been something Cooper Webb said in jest and Uncle Ralphie is just distorting it to make it seem like Webb has more pressure than he really does. Either way, it's annoying every time Ralph mentions it.

I'm suspecting Roger was less than thrilled with the MX season and pre-season SX testing/prep. Roger likely gave him the benefit of the doubt in SX rounds 1 & 2, but by round 3 he basically told him to get his ass in gear. Roger knows how to manage a championship and, if he said something to Cooper, he saw something he wasn't thrilled with.

Also keep in mind Webb seems to ride his best when a fire is lit under his ass. All of this could have been Roger's way of "motivating" him.

Most likely the verbatim was lost in the relay. Ralph is Ralph.

Webb knows what is required of him however if RD felt the program needed tweaking I'm sure he tweaked.

Been that way from the beginning with Decoster. He leaves nothing to chance.

Freakishly. I think he admires and strives for excellence that much.

Did I miss something, or I thought Roger Decoster was going to step back and Ian Harrison was the new team manager?

I saw Roger in person at the Astrodome once during practice - he had an entire section to himself, and we creepily sat a few rows behind him in awe...

I think Ralph has only mentioned it in this past race only.

I'm sure Roger is a motivator....but saying to his 1 year prodigy Champion "Am I wasting my time"...is ludicrous and extremely unlikely. Hopefully someone in the know can put the "Ralph/Barf" to rest.

LOL.... Ralph is slang for regurgitating/puking/upchucking.

I like Ralph...but sometimes...dude...just simma down now....

Nah... he mentioned it the week before also.... or at least someone did on the broadcast.

Honestly, that seems like a good question for a manager to ask an employee once every year.

Post a reply to: Did Decoster really ask Webb the question?
