claiming bikes and loretta's talk

Edited Date/Time 8/7/2017 7:51pm
What's the most current rule about claiming bikes at the ranch? I know a few years ago when RC raced he got rid of factory suspension because they were afraid someone was going to claim the bike.

This year there are some pretty trick bikes down there from the star, geico, and PC bikes all with A kit and everything else on them.

Carson Mumford's 150 has to be one of the most one-off bikes there.

So not only do I need to find the URL for you, I need to read the page for you too?

G: PROTEST FEES AND PROCEDURES
3. The claiming rule value is two times the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) at the National event.

Teams aren't going to claim another team's bikes. If you claim a team's bike, your possible future as a support/factory will be claimed by somebody else.

Frankly, that would be a reason for me TO claim a team bike. Too many peoplw worried about pissing off the "powers that be". The butthurt drama would be epic to watch...........

This is why I don't get the lack of claims. Take a vacation in TN to ride, come home with Forkner's PC bike. Maybe most just aren't aware?

So you would get the bike no matter what as long as you paid double retail?

$18,000 for a 450?

How done up are these amateurs bikes? Like would Justin Cooper's bike be similar to Plessinger's?

From what I've been told, the PC, Star and Amsoil bikes are no different than what Savatgy, Plessinger and Martin are riding. But idk for sure, That's just what I was told.

Hypothetical: You are that guy that knows he is is never going to get a factory ride so you claim a factory bike. To even up a little on the financial side, you offer up the bike to all the magazines and web sites to ride it, dyno it, tear it down, take pictures and write it up for their magazine.

1. Which magazine/web sites would even bid?

2. Who would win?

3. What would the winning bid be?

I'm surprised this thread hasn't vaporized.
Guess the mfg honchos are busy at the Ranch and not scanning the Vital village. HuhLaughing

A stock 450 is so good these days that claims don't make sense, and the works bikes are set up to their riders preference, which probably is way off from average rider preference

Wut? Did I leave out the "/s/"? Wink

A claiming thread pops up annually. And, annually, one of the insiders drops by to explain the unwritten agreement among the honchos to protect the bikes. Here's my recall: More than 1party can lodge a claim. If a claim is made, all honchos will submit a claim. There is a blind draw. More claims reduces the odds. Bike will be returned after the fact, and recompense will follow. I don't recall this unwritten agreement being confirmed by a honcho, but I have no reason to doubt it.

Personally, I would love to see mini-Dad's lodging claims like the early days of Cobra---fist fights and threats of lawsuits. Good times, man, good times.

A claiming rule is a rule that means you have to sell your bike to any competitors at the price set by the race promoters. In our case, the price is 2X MSRP.
The goal is to limit costs, because you wouldn't* spend $50,000 building a bike if anyone can buy it from you for $18,000. However nobody uses the claiming rule, so it doesn't have an effect. Those pro circuit bikes are worth alot more than 2X MSRP.

it's a form of self government. the threat of losing your investment, makes you want to invest less...or is supposed to. This rule was popular for decades in circle track racing. It was also a part of AMA professional motocross before the homologation rules, which started with the 1986 Supercoss season.
